I've got a 2001 Ford F-250. Manual, V10, 4x4. And it has an open 3.73 rear differential.
I'd love a limited slip, and have a line on a Ford Trac-Lok differential that needs a rebuild. The seller is an hour's drive away, and wants $80 for it. Rebuilding it doesn't scare me–it's just a clutch-type limited slip, and kits seem to be readily available–but the seller said it's the two-pinion style, not the later three-pinion style.
Should I run, or will that be strong enough for my use? I need this truck to comfortably tow 8,000 lbs. on the street, and be able to handle mild off-road trails to go and pluck my smaller vehicles out of the woods. My main reason for the limited slip is to avoid spinning the inside rear tire when it's raining.
Thoughts?
