So I am tearing the front suspension apart last night in my manual steering GMC project, and I decided it would be a good idea to inspect the box.

Recall that I drove this truck for almost a year before taking it off the road and never felt any play in the wheel at all. None.

The steering was set up nearly full lock left. I had about half of a turn of the steering wheel of dead space. I panicked a bit, but then thought about it and centered the wheel. Absolutely zero free play here on-center. The box acts perfectly.

What is going on near full lock?

Do I care?

Im just subbing to learn more.

Got no clue on the question, but someone smarter and better looking than me wull be along shortly.

You should definitely care, but I'm not sure what's going on there.

Two shots showing how far I could rotate the steering shaft near maximum lock without changing the steering angle. it retrospect it's more like a bit more than 1/4 turn.
