Like it says, I need to know more. My current knowledge stands at cheap and has a v8. What else do I need to know?
Just to eliminate confusion, here's a real big hotlink:

I've heard they run like raped apes when they run right, but I've seen them alot with typical ford ignition coil issues, oxygen sensors, etc etc. I dig em, with a little work would've made an awesome M3 fighter.
I rented one once, it was fun, and really thirsty. But to be fair I was not exactly hypermiling, the traction control was switched off for megapowerslide fun.I would consider owning one. I would also like to get my hands on a v6 sport model with the manual for a test drive.
Same platform as the retro tbird too, and the same offbeat 3.9L v8. I don't think that engine has anything in common with other ford v8s.
The v6 with a stick might be fun, as would a v6/5spd CTS. But how much more is a 3-series? I feel like I'd get my money's worth with the bmw but enjoy being different with the other cars.
All I know is I want to do terrible, dirty, nasty, despicable, awesome, glorious things to one with a welder and the guts of a Skyline...

It would be more of a sleeper than a 3 series. Nobody would expect a Lincoln to lift her skirts and run
Seems every one around here was crushed or died some other fate, I have not seen one in at least a few years. They were cheap cheap around 2004-2005, like $6-7k for a nice one.
The motor is a de-stroked Jaguar 4.0 v8. All aluminum, DOHC, I've heard they're pretty cool bits of engineering.
Didn't the early version of the V8 use Nikasil liners? I seem to remember reading something about the LS back when I was researching a possible Jag XK8 purchase.
the only ones i've been around were money pits.
it seemed like an intentionally under-engineered jaguar. as an example, why is it a 3.9? what is the point of shaving 1/10th of a liter out of that engine compared to the S-type? the answer is in the question.
I would suggest a 04-06 if you want the v8. They made like 280 hp instead of 250, and I think they switch to metal timing chain guides from plastic ones which had issues.
The auto trans seems to have alot of issues as well no matter the year. 2000 and 2001 auto trans will not start in 1st gear. They will downshift to first if you get on it but I found it annoying.
If the air bag light is on and the horn doesnt work the clock spring is probably bad. There is also something about an electrical connection under the driver seat causing an issue but I cant remember what the details were. The coils going bad seem to be a common issue on both the v6 and v8 cars.
I bought a v6/auto LS a few months ago with a rod knock. It had 99k miles on it and was already on the second motor and needed another. This is what it looked like inside...
However we have basicly the same v6 in our taurus and it has over 160k on it without any issues. So maybe mine was an oddball...
Yea the previous owner was my boss and he always took it to jiffy lube... So I think the wrong oil got put in it a time or two.
My brother-in-law leased one of the V8s for 3 years. Lovely car to drive, and it really went like a bargain Jag. However, he dumped it as soon as he could because it had endless electronic issues. For instance, the rain sensing wipers would come on randomly on dry days, and the only way to stop them was to pull over, shut down and "reboot". I kept looking for Lucas labels on it, but never found any. It sure seemed to be haunted by the ghost of Lucas.
A co-worker had one, a 2006 LS. It went through 13 (yes 13) ignition coils in 4 years. They were replaced by Ford under warranty, but 13??? He did say the coils were made by Lucas, so that probably explains a lot.
