Not sure if the info has made it around, but Texas World Speedway seems destined to close, maybe. People are trying to save it. http://www.theeagle.com/news/local/article_568c28d5-55e2-5c04-ab55-3c5d6f196ca7.html

That would be a shame, they've got a really nice road course. Been there a few times... learned to brake early coming down the front straight. You don't want an oopsie there.
Yeah, that's been coming for years. And it will be a couple more years before it happens. But it will happen. It is useless to sign petitions. The good news is that several new tracks have been built in Texas over the last 10 years or so.
The people running the track tried to make it profitable to the owner, but people balked at the price increase. Now, they're complaining that they will lose their track to run at. Can't have it both ways.
i just google earthed it. The asphalt looks pretty rough and there's not much parking. Compare it to Texas Motor Speedway.

Nah, stay on the throttle through the transition and onto the flat. Once there you brake straight sort of cadicorner across the track till you get to the edge. Then ease off the brakes as you turn in and roll back on the throttle. Should be full throttle before the apex of 2. At least thats how I roll in it ;)
It is a sad time. The track is in pretty good shape. I love the layout. Some of the extra areas are in need of update, bathrooms buildings and such. Its been my home track, I started instructing there, and worked all through college. It will be missed.
Nashville Motor Speedway went out too. Fast track with a cool infield circuit.
Closed race tracks make me sad.
Burt Levy described it as racing in the ruins of the Roman Coliseum. The facilities generally suck and look dilapidated, but the racecourse itself is fairly well maintained and a bunch of fun. About 10 years ago they opened the longer road course, which really made the track usable.
They've been raising their prices steadily, especially over the last few years with the new ownership. My club has repeatedly passed these costs on to the membership, who have squawked because it makes it the most expensive track we use. The new ownership is a real estate company, so I don't think it was ever anything but a long term land play for them.
They did try a quick flip and put the whole thing up for sale a couple years ago with no takers at the asking price. A big issue is the cost of demolition of the grandstands, which were condemned years ago.
