I try to be less is more:
Wife as her Santa Fe as a daily
I have my Outback a daily / fetch things like engine blocks & garden stuff / go explore old ghost towns
The E250 Camper Van to pig; it's small enough it fits on the side of the house but big enough to be a nice place to sit at the track. When I need to haul something really large I use the car trailer so the van is handy for hauling stuff.
Novakar Formula 500 autocross car & vintage race car.
Datsun 1200 vintage race car & track day car.
I could probably ditch the van & the Datsun and just use the Subaru to tow the F500 but we've owned the 1200 for 36 years, much like Frenchyd's MG it's here to stay.
I do have 3 motorcyles; 62 Honda 90, 2011 Beta 520 & 1980 RM125. The RM could probably go.
I have a 3 car garage and the 2 races cars & 3 bikes are neatly arranged in the single car bay so space isn't an issue. Also the 2 race cars & 3 buikes cost me less than 3K a year to maintain.
I do dream of having just one race car, one street car & one bike but that is not likely to ever happen.
5 cars seems to be the happy place.

Our answer is a 2020 base 370z w/6spd manual, a 2012 Forester (bough new by my lovely assistant/wife), an '06 4x Frontier King w/spd man, and a pretty straight and rust free '67 2dr Buick Sky/Special rat rod (SBC/Saginaw 4 spd conv), an '86 Honda 750 Interceptor, a '94 Sportster (both are running project bikes), and 2019 Honda CMX 500. Now if I could just remember to update the spreadsheet maint. logs on the above.
I have a 2013 F-150 that does daily/towing duty, a 981 Cayman S that's basically a sunny day car, and a Miata race car that lives in a trailer. Even though the Cayman is the best car I've ever owned and by far my favorite, lately I'm having a hard time justifying it. Right now I could probably sell it for more than I bought it for, and I have a 15 year old daughter that will start driving in the fall so I'm going to need space for one more car. The truck, trailer and Miata aren't going anywhere. Tough decisions.

I fully agree. It gets my blood pumping to find the next "thing". Often getting carried away pulling a car out of a field 3 hours from home saying, how'd I get here. That's probably why all of my vheicls have checkered pasts and are modified from original in some discernable way.
Right there with you !!!!
I change cars a lot too, the thrill of the hunt for me is almost the hobby. I don't really get tired of the cars that I have just that I always want to try something else.

Do all of your friends and family think you are insane like mine do? My wife likes to throw me under the bus at parties and lament about my car addiction. Although, if it weren't for me her VW would have gotten traded in for pennies a long time ago.

Yes
I hate when my wife mentions my constant car turnovers. Cuz then her idiot friend husbands wants to talk about them and I don't like talking car with non car people. No one will appreciate my Cressida wagon, subaru justy, or fx16 or rare two tone fj62 blah blah
I am surrounded by people who monthly lease $1500 cars and dump every 24 months
they are not car people, they are status people
few years ago told my wife to stop saying it at parties snd 90% of the time she's good with it these days.

Most of my wife's friends and co workers think my hobby is insane. She tells people she likes my hobby becuase I'm not out blowing my paycheck at the strip club, drinking or gambling (we're in Vegas). Also she likes the fact I can fix most things on her car.

I remember being happy with a stock '66 notch back 6 cyl. 3spd/tree Nova and a '76 Yamaha RD 400 back in '77- 78. RD had Dunlap K81s, Koni shocks, and car ign. coils and condensers). Funny how things change when you seem to have more time and money than sense. Oh well, we only live once.

The running joke among my friends is "How many cars do you have today?" I suppose it's not funny when it's true.
My only saving grace is that one of my buddies is much, much worse than I am. I go through 4-5 cars a year, he gets a new oddball every month or so.

i don't know if you're a subscriber to motortrend on demand or not, but the most recent episode of Shift Talk asked the question can any car be made to be cool? Freddy Hernandez "Tavarish" said that while any car can be interesting and unique and you should customize it to make it your own, that doesn't mean its cool.
My point (and it's meant to be VERY tongue in cheek) is that I consider myself quite the car person, but if I am at a house party and start talking cars with a stranger, a Toyota wagon is not likely the car I want to learn about :)

As a toyota wagon owner, I don't have a tv, and can't afford motor trend on demand subscriptions

This is a good point; I look at challenge cars and see some really clever car guys...................normal people probably see heaps of steaming poo
Now as for a Toyota wagon I always wanted build a turbo Cressida wagon with 300-400hp at the wheels.
Non car people at parties will always tell you about their old car that used to chirp the wheels shifting into 3rd and such.

Outside looking in, you have a pretty cool garage. Truck is handy, cheap and reliable. Bmw is unique and highway trip friendly, back road fun and daily driveable. I'm not a corvette guy, but yours is sexy.
+1 yeah I'm not sure how you did it but that's a Corvette I actually like

The one I get more than anything is this... Did you know that my chevy/gmc truck/full size SUV has the same motor as your corvette does.
I also get the; yeah but its not as fast as my old (insert pre-emissions bias ply tired 1970 suspension drum brakes muscle car) because that had a (hemi, big block, etc.)
But ALL of those people are not as obnoxious as the corvette owners that spend the entire car show arguing about which battery tender they should use, or which car polish, or which brake pads produce the least amount of dust.

I would very very much rather talk about a Cressida Wagon, Subaru Justy, and FX16 Corolla than about any Corvette.

its all about quantity not length. The hair is to ensure the fake cheap gold doesn't touch skin causing the skin to turn green.

I'd absolutely flog the crap out of a Justy on gravel roads near my house. There is great joy in over driving unloved cars.

Tom come over anytime. I got a mint 1 owner Justy and a 2 owner Brat, with your name on it :) I am sure you won't recite Autotrader, Tavarish, and MotorTrend and lecture me on what is cool or not!
I will even sit on the bed seat of the Brat, while you drive, with my lack of chest hair for the whole world to see. I don't have the lengths or volume, hope that is ok with you

"Couldnt snatch a 100 dollar bill off the dashboard" Is what I get around here.
I loved my C5 but that was the only type of people that talked to me about it. If Im driving the GMT400 and someone comes up to me to ask me about it I know this is a man of culture, or the 66 mustang, If they stay past 'Its got an inline 6," then its a good one and I can spend a few minutes talking to them

That statement is more about your lack of social graces than any condemnation about Corvettes. In social settings it's polite and respectful to at least pretend interest in another persons subject.
Yes there is a world of shallow interest self centered people out there. To improve that be the better man. Let him speak.
