The Mini Moke is a fine beach cruiser as long as you don't actually go onto the sand. Then you'd be in a FWD open-diff car on pizza cutters on the sand.
Heh... I read the thread title I thought "something to drive to the beach..." not drive on the beach... Oops.
I'd probably go with a Wrangler... but they're pretty common around here.
You young whippersnappers and your "Wranglers". Back when they made real Jeeps, they were CJ's, which stood for Civilian Jeep!
I had to google it and find out when that goofy moniker took over. Looks like about 1987, when things started going goofy all over.

While I'd prefer a CJ for off-roading, the Wrangler (XJ, IIRC) was a vast improvement when if came to being a car one could realistically use. I was heavily into off-roading back in the 80's when the CJ was discontinued... I remember the cries well...
Seriously, for cruising the beach, a Sandrail can't be beat. Add one with real power and BOOM. Winning.

I am sure this Ford Van would work:
Wrangler. Which is actually the same price or cheaper than a Samurai in similar condition, it seems. Which is way more expensive than i wish it was.
Volkswagen Type 181 "Thing" it's not fast but the doors and top come off and it seats 9 if they cling to the roll bar.

Man I love that thing but I wouldn't want to be the two people that have to get in the back. Let's just say it wouldn't win any awards for ingress or egress.

if only they had built that.. or at least a 2 door
Came in here to say Samurai. Chopped Bronco II - it seems there are a number of people taking the back roof off of these, and there used to be a company making a canvas top. Besides, the Bronco II seems undervalued. Amigo, Tracker.
More spendy? Early Bronco, International Scout, (You must love replacing rusty panels.) Defender 90.
Things that would amuse me if done with other people's money? Laforza.
For me, this.....
