Way cool!
That's a 4 speed, you can tell by the overdrive switch on the knob
Volvo used gen-u-ine Laycock de Normanville overdrive units behind 4 speeds well into the 1980s, maybe 90s? Certainly EvanB's 740 wagon had one.

How does that switch deal work on the shifter?
Got a little free time to catch up on the unicorns I've spotted lately.
First, a one-of-a-kind vehicle, the Mitsubishi L2Stubby...a custom short-wheelbase short-bed L200 for offroading:

Switch electronically engages/disengages overdrive. Believe it will work in gears 2-4. Simple to use, supposed to let off on the gas pedal and flip the switch to engage/disengage overdrive and get back on the gas. It will work just flipping the switch with gas pedal pressed but letting off the gas will prolong the life of the overdrive. This type is common on many older British cars. MG, Triumph, AH and others. Even on some Volvos. Seen it used in other gears like 2 & 3 when racing, used right it can shift quicker than actually shifting gears.
Saw this a week ago. Snatched a pic as the light went green. You can see the gap infront of me, you can't hear me being yelled at by SWMBO and eldest daughter for taking the pic from the drivers seat. Yes I shouldn't have done it, but at least I wasnt moving (notice gap to the white SUV ahead)
So, it's a TVR out in the wild on the road............ but it was stopped as you can't see. I'm not sure which car caused them too pull over, the TVR or the MGB you can just see the screen of ahead. It's a 50:50 toss up I guess.
Ive seen this guy around Anchorage for a few years now. It’s driven in the winter occasionally as well and still looks brand new.
Not a car, but this fellow made a few passes overhead while I was driving the kids to the movies this afternoon:

Same way it does on an MGB or anything else with the LdN overdrive. You flip the switch, let off the throttle, or push in the clutch if you're mechanically sympathetic, and man alive that unit will shift into Overdrive.

I saw a mint Dodge Rampage with a dual racing stripes today and an AMC Hornet. The Hornet was not quite so mint and was actually beng pushed off the road and into a parking lot.
