Let's assume you have a Miata shell and you MUST put a straight six engine into it.
What would you choose and why?
RB20DET if it doesn't have to pass Cali smog; 2JZ-GTE if it does (and it fits).
Either way, though, that's a lot of weight to hang over the front axleline. I don't know of any all-aluminum I6s... are BMW motors? If that's the case, I'd go for one of those instead.
4.2 Jag engine, with triple webers. Heavy, YES. Long, yes. Would require lots modification, of course. BUT the old factor in a new car. Great. Besides if it can (and has been done in an MG Midget, then a Miata is possible. Back in the land of a bit easier. a 2.3L BMW 6. Strong and smoooth power. In euro tune, of course. Still, Opening the hood of a Miata and seeing those cam covers on the 4.2 would be great.

the coolest all aluminum L6 i know of is the DOHC vortec 4200 in the trailblazer/envoy. but the thing is TALL. nice and light though

thats one swap option I never think of - what are options for engine management outside of megasquirt? what transmission options are out there?

Absolutely no idea. I just think it's an awesome engine, and I'd love to do something with it someday.

Ha ok, I agree with the awesomeness. looks like it would be B.A.M.F in a locost or some kinda RWD CRX aberration or the like...wonder what kinda forged internalls can be found wink wink nudge nudge knowhatImean?
In reply to 4cylndrfury: Cooling? LOTS of Forward facing hood louvers, side skirts and rer diffuser? Might keep thep that Honda cool. Or is there a radiator hiding someplace on that Honda I don't see--or haven't seen. But. lots of thin copper tubing wrapped around the bores plumbed into a radiator, and a big oil cooler.
Inline 6 is your criteria. Two triple rotor rotaries bolted/joined together. I'm sure the tractor pulling guys could come up with some kind of adapter. They have up to 6 Hemis workingtogether, sooo.

*Must be mated to three-on-the-tree.

if VW was able to stuff aircooled mills in the derriere of beetles and karmann ghias, I am certain I could keep one cool in the front of a locost or in a heavily modified 3 door!
