And i'm of the mindset that if it DOES have a rotary in it, (or any other engine for that matter) it needs an LS1. Those rotaries are pure voodoo man.... VOODOO.
Please see the second sentence in my post that immediately precedes this one!
I think the key difference is that even if people have their favorites, the vast majority of us are interested in cars and motor sports as general topics as well. If somebody posts a question or has an interesting idea, we're able to appreciate it for what it is, as opposed to trashing it based on our personal preference. Just look at all the love the Challenge generates.
For example, on the RX7 Club pages, Mndsm would have been ostracized by the general population for his SBC cheerleading. People there have no sense of humor.
This is the only auto related forum that I frequent, except for ones specific to what ever cars I own when some issue comes up.
Great place and great people. Thanks to all. (Oh, I will be 40 in a couple of months, scary)
Seriously, I think this forum is so awesome because even if we don't prefer the other car, we still find it interesting. I loathe Toyota's, but I still follow 93celica's builds and read up on 1st Gen MR2's. Hell, sometimes you change your mind because of this board. If you do a search, you'll find a thread from 2 years ago where I bad mouth the crap out of the Porsche 944, and guess what I bought 2 weeks ago? The sheer automotive variety here is what keeps me coming back. I hate single-car forums, they're boring.
This site is a nice get away from other car sites I am paid to follow. I can only so much 20valve-1.8-turbo-mix-match-turbo-parts-why-wont-my-car-run-correctly...
I am very guilty of the "buying another car as one car sits and needs work". Just an excuse to get away from my girlfriend and cheat on her with tools and cars.

Yeah, "Sorry honey I can't hear you, this impact wrench is just too loud."

guilty of that too! Haha, done that with impacts and revving the engine. She was not pleased.

I work occasionally at my friends rotary shop, and am sceaming to put a turbo rotary in my s13. Does this appease you?
Because I know my 240sx is the best car, but there are several ways to power it. Some get 35mpg even! (not triangles of doom of course)

Fixed that for you. There are no exceptions to this rule

As you SHOULD. Since... i've built nothing but Mazdas the last couple years.
I love GRM. Where else can I find enablers for my fetishes? Even among car people I have odd tastes.
I'm 31. I think I've been hanging around GRM since... '02 or was it '03?

I like how folks here seem to be able to have heated disagreements in one thread (especially in O/T political threads) and then converse in another thread like the previous thread never happened.
I can tell you this...
I have been on MANY car forums. The first one was StarQuestClub.com because I was the proud owner of a 1989 Conquest TSi and stuffed a 351-W Ford between the front tires. That forum was OK, but the guys are kinda single minded.
Then, when I was working at a Ford Performance shop at the time and had to get on the local Mustang forums in order to keep tabs on my market. Again, cool guys, but very single minded. Mustang guys are ALWAYS Mustang guys.
Then I decided to check out FerrariChat.com. Great bunch of guys over there, but it makes you feel sub-par because of their awesome exotics and pictures of their insane homes and garages. Makes my 2000 Crown Vic P71 look like a hooptie next to their "beater" 2009 SL65 AMG. sigh
Then I found you guys... I can honestly say that when I started checking this place out I said out loud, at work mind you, "Where the hell have you people been all my life?" You guys think along the same lines as me, talk like me, have insane ideas like me. You guys are like family. I feel like I'm home.
Absolutely top notch family we have here. Thanks for letting me be a new member.

Aside from automotive there has lately been some fantastic advice on Real Estate/Lending/Credit. Other favorites from the past have been about food/cooking/bargain meals.
Hell, I have easily been here more than 10 years. My '90 Miata Stock Class autocross build in 1994 followed nearly to a tee an article in GRM (print) and later found the website.

I just skip most of the political threads
I love this forum. My last five vehicle purchases have been non-runners that have had to be dragged home in some fashion. Here I'm normal, perhaps even on the mild side.

Now that is simply not true. I know many Mustang guys who are also heavily into Bronco's

totally agreed, especially during my first challenge in 06. i had the distinct feeling of 'I'm not alone in this world"!
i mean we built an autocrossing Jeep Cherokee.... and it wasnt the strangest vehicle at the challenge!
I've owned 4 classic mustangs, and I am NOT a mustang guy. I love all cars. Unfortunately, I can't own all of them!
But I agree with a lot of what people have said. This is definitely the best forum I've found, and it's the only one I participate in on a regular basis. I love that at least when it comes to old cars, everyone seems to like everything. And just recently I got sucked into an off-topic discussion where one poster and I had pretty heated debate. Only just a couple days later I was asking about something and that same guy sent me a private message with a bunch of helpful info.
That just wouldn't happen somewhere else.
