Wanted to confirm my suspicion that this would be unsafe to drive on. Thoughts?

I don't see any cords cut, so I've got to say I've run worse.

In reply to Streetwiseguy :

Ditto. If no cords are visible, it passes the safety inspection in my province. Or is the darkness around and inside the damage someone's attempt at sealing it?

That built up area is just wheel protection from curbs, aesthetics.

Yeap. I'd run it. Wouldn't give it a second thought.

Looks like it's just the "rim protector" section that sticks out has damage. My son has been driving one like that for a year now. I'd drive it.

I'd drive it all day, and currently am.

If it weren't a Continental I'd say run it..........

BUT, I've had several sidewall failures on Continentals so I would start shopping now.

It looks like it's only damage to the outer layers of rubber and not into the structure of the tire.  Unlikely to be a safety concern in my mind.

Street? Run it.

Autocross? Run it.

Track? Maybe.

Keep an eye on it if you run it.

I'd run it, but I'm really cheap.

The outer rubber does offer additional containment and structure, but not as much as you'd think.

If it were me and no cords were cut, I'd just rubber cement that loose piece back down and ignore it.

pneumatic roofing nailer would hold it down nicely.

(don't use a roofing nailer)
