In a Trans Am grid of Mustangs and Camaros, why not stand out with something like a Toyota Camry?

Thanks to TRD USA, you can now do just that.

Developed for the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series, the new Camry body will make its debut this weekend at the Mission Foods Road Atlanta SpeedTour, where two Toyotas are set to …

It's just a sticker package, bro... wink

Pulling up the body templates from 5* I  can better see the differences between them, but it's pretty subtle. The side profile just screams generic pony car rather than generic family sedan. Maybe they should start with a generic CUV shape instead. Then ALL the manufacturers could be represented by their current offerings.

Why not the Supra like their Xfinity car?

Is it because the Camry has a fresher face?

In reply to j_tso :

That's a really good question. I'm not too sure why they wouldn't use the Supra either.

Do we know what engine package the Toyota body cars are going to be allowed to run? I can't find that info in any of the TA materials.

I thought TA2 all ran an LS3 based engine, but according to their "Cube 3" page it says there are GM, Ford, and Mopar options... So that does certainly beg the question. They don't even make a V8 anymore, although apparently they're still able to supply their 5.0L V8 for the "Supercars" Supras. So maybe that engine? Not sure how that would work with the cost controlled aspect of the class though.

Isn't the Supra going away again? I'm guessing that's more the reason than anything. That and there's more "brand recognition" with the Camry, even though they don't make one that looks remotely close to this thing.

And I kinda wish they did, because a Toyota ponycar on par with the Mustang and Camaro would be interesting.

I wonder about the day when all the manufacturers only build SUVs and no cars...what will Trans Am, NASCAR, etc. look like then.

So they allow Mopar V8 power - destroke a 426 Hemi and claim it's a 4V-E?

The Camry will run the ls-based "Choice" engine.  There are rumors of a Toyota in the TA class soon, that will run an engine based on their Cup unit.
