Guys,
Its probably in the VIN, but I don't have the car or owners manual at the moment

Yup, the VIN. First letter of J is japan build, the rest were Canada or California. Depends on the year.

So then does that mean that W is Walmart?? Yeah, I know... it's Germany, but in VW case they'd be better off building at Walmart.
In reply to SKJSS (formerly Klayfish) :
Here's the messed up part...
BMWs built in Alabama sometimes have a W starting the VIN.
Go by the doorjamb sticker.

BMW does not have a plant in Alabama.
The ones built in South Carolina start with 1, 4 or 5.
It's regulated World Wide. No USA built BMWs will start with W. BMW is not allowed to do it.
In 2001 they put a W VIN on @50 M Roadsters trying to say SC was "an extension of the Germany plant" and got told "not allowed"

This. Vin will be correct unless someone has swapped VIN tags.... which happens.
Also 5 is US as well, a lot of Honda's have that due to the 1 not having enough room for millions more cars apparently or some such nonsense.
