Yesterday I helped my father finish up installing a new rear main seal in a 96' Tercel and while the oil leak has subsided the transmission is now causing problems where there were none before. The trans is a A132L three speed automatic. It feels like the transmission is slipping. Filled with dexron to the hot fill line, filter changed last week, kick down cable working properly. In the garage the engine would torque back and forth in and out of gear and after a three mile drive now there feels like no difference in or out of gear. What are we missing?

Did you clean the flex plate/flywheel/whatever it's called on an automagic well while you were doing all this?

Probably got oil all over it.

The flex plate and torque converter are bolted together and clean, no slipping there.

We are beginning to think that it was overfilled by 1/2 quart for the short trip and lost a seal inside the transmission.

Or, there was air trapped somewhere, and now it's 'low'?
