I am contemplating insuring the Datsun; strictly for transport.

They was folks are driving since Covid has me realizing I should probably do this.

Anyone have one of these policies; what kind of cost are they typically?

I was going to call Hager th on Monday (they insure my Mustang) and get a quote.

Hagerty would not insure my race car (E46 M3) unless I stored it in the garage -- I store it in the trailer in the side yard of my house, but that wasn't good enough for them.  Lockton had no issues with this, so that's who my policy is through.

I think price really just depends on how much coverage you want.  Lockton had an online quote, it covers storage, transport, paddock, basically anything other than being out on the racing surface (well, or on public roads obviously).  They also offer options to add coverage for the trailer, tools in the trailer, or spares for the car.  Those options added a lot to the price, so I don't have them.

I have our NA race car insured through Grundy.  It's about $400/yr for a stated value policy, but I keep it registered and insured so I can drive it to the local AutoX or C&C.  If you're just looking for coverage when it's being towed, your regular (tow) vehicle insurance should cover that... check your policy.

NCM was a lot cheaper than Hagerty this time around. Grundy wouldn't insure the car once I told them it was used on track. NCM appears to insure more than corvette as well.

That's interesting.  Grundy knows my car is a track car, but it's not insured for anything that happens on track, only on the street and for theft.
