one of my uncles has a 92 ZR1.. he had to spend something like $1000 for some hoses that activate the butterflies to open up the secondary intake runners... or something... then he had to buy a couple of special long torx sockets to take things apart to get to it..

neat car, but i'd never want to own one. i'd rather just buy an early C5 Z06 and get twice the car for half the money...

Kinda where I'm at. I'm astonished that this car sold for nearly $70k new (and more with dealer markups, people were paying $100k!) back in the early 90s considering that the interior is atrocious. Granted it was essentially a supercar with that drivetrain back in the early 90s, but I was checking out the leather in the thing and it feels like vinyl, it's terrible.

By the time I'm ready for a Vette I'll get a C6 Z06. A friend just got a low mileage one for $29k (granted, a hell of a deal).

The c4 ZR1s are pretty special imo. They put off an entirely different vibe than the standard c4 and that dohc v8 really howls. You can find them for slightly over 10k if you're patient and don't need perfection. For that kind of money it's a pretty cool car and I don't have any problems with the interior....I think atrocious is an overstatement. The leather in my 88 C4 doesn't feel any better or worse than what was in my 87 944 turbos.

That being said I would LOVE to find a decent c6 z06 for under 30k. You're friend got a great deal if the car is in good shape.

I'm really comparing it to today more than anything, but still for the price it seems pretty weak. I'm sure the cars of the time compare about the same, but it's hard not to look at something for a similar price from the 2000s and consider that C4 interior godawful. Pretty sure a 944 Turbo in 1987 didn't go for $70k either.

My friend's car is mint and has around 40k miles.

True, I think one of my 944 turbos stickered in the high 40s, but it had a lot of options, but to me the c4 ZR1 is a lot more car than the 944t. Honestly, my 85 911s interior is worse than the 944s and they are the same manufacturer and only a couple of years apart.

That's an amazing deal on the C6 z06. I'm guessing he was in the right place/right time or someone seriously needed money.

He did not tell me the particulars of the deal, but when I asked about the price and was astonished he admitted he got a smoking deal on the car. He has a lot of friends that are car people as he is a well known autocrosser.

FYI, in case you need to get a number 8 plug out of your LT5, this particular spark plug socket is the way to go. I found a reference to it on corvetteforum and my boss picked it up and it is the perfect size apparently as he was able to get in there with it.

Yes, $33, but considering an hour labor at most shops was gonna run more than that it wasn't a bad deal.
