I found this posted on Craigslist, the seller gave very little information and no price. Has anyone here seen this type of car, looks to be chain drive and the seller has what appear to be a number of new parts that will go with the car.

Looks a little like an f500. Does it have a 2 stroke snowmobile endine?
Whoops, just saw the coilovers, disregard my reply.

It does look like a F500 (or old F440) that someone was starting to convert into... something... perhaps an A-Mod car.
One would really need to see it in person and evaluate the chassis to give an estimate on value. From what I see here, I wouldn't pay more than $500.
I was also thinking F440 car as the tires seem small compared to F500 cars. I think $500 is all this might be worth. Still have not heard back form the seller.

Hmm... I'm 99% sure F440 cars run the same 10" tires (Hoosiers) F500 cars do... or at least they do now.
That's a lot of parts. Nice seat too.

I'm not denying somebody put a lot of work into it, but it's a shame they couldn't finish it. With any luck, the seller can find some documentation about what the builder had planned. If it is an old F440 car, then it's pretty much an autocross only car as unless the roll-hoop has been updated, it's too small for GCR compliance.
No - definitely no F440 content there. It's one of these:

From the pictures and my knowledge of the dirtbags in the Baltimore exurbs, this is just a bigger version of an old, uncompetitive RC car that some clueless rube has bought a ton of "hop-up" parts for, ultimately spending more than had they just bought something workable in the first place.
EDIT: After looking at the chassis pics and noticing the "Wheelworx" airbrushed logos - this thing was a sign above a business most likely. There ~is~ no chassis, just a crude frame of 1" square steel tube, and no suspension, engine, brakes or steering.
I'll guess whoever owned all this junk left it when they were evicted, and the seller, having zero idea what it is thinks it's this:
Front running FB car - $40k

What class would that FIRA car run in today? I'd never heard of them.
W/ SCCA, FS the catch-all regional "doesn't fit in any class, class" .
But it's a moot point - There's no FIRA car there. Just a weathered fiberglass shell and a couple 4-wheeler suspensions.

+1
LOL, you're absolutely right, it looks like a F500 car, but that is NOT a race car frame under there. That's freaking hilarious.
At least one of those books has gone way up in value.
To me it looks a lot like the cars they used at Malibu Grand Prix. I used to hit those a lot when I first got my drivers license.
In reply to Flyin Mikey J: that's what I was thinking too, but but the wheel base is too long, and the engine cowl is to big.

Since their logo is on it you could always contact Wheel Worx and see if they know anything about it http://www.whlworx.com/
I lettered up a similar car for a charity celeb race in Cali right before I moved up to Oregon in 1993... no idea what car they were using, but I do know it was a spec formula of some sort.
$500 + junkyard truck motor = $20xx challenger with a 1" square tube locost frame.
^ Truck motor? Too big, fat and heavy with a low power output.
I think something rotary, boxer or inline 4 would be a better fit.
Or a liter sport-bike engine.

Which one?
I ask because I have several of them, and would like to know if I should maybe take better care of them...

I simple was thinking of the absolute cheapest thing you could get around here. Yes, the P/W ratio will suck, but the car will be light enough that this doesn't matter. Cheap is the key; why spend a butt load of money building the ultimate 'x' when you are guaranteed to have the ONLY one? Whoever builds that will definitely be running alone in their own class at the typical autocross....
looks like it could have been a Formula Four. The class has been around for a surprisingly long time. Never really caught on in the US.
Formula Four
find an old big bore (>500cc, preferably 4 stroke for tamer powerband) ATV or dirtbike, grab the motor from it and stuff it into a car of similar size. a super light open wheel car powered by the engine from a 600-700cc sport quad or big bore dual sport/desert bike would be a TON of fun in A-Mod, or find a <610cc 4 stroke, run it through a 20mm restrictor, and proceed to not care a single bit about meeting minimum weight, while towing it with literally any vehicle bigger than itself. Rotax 604 anyone?

I thought the same thing, but looks like this is something else? Too many different details?
Ah, the Virage... I never got to drive one. Wasn't old enough when we lived near Redwood City and every birthday was a trip to drive the little Road Runner go-karts. I think there's one around here somewhere, but I haven't made it out...
In any case, whatever's in that ad looks pretty... bad. Not that a Virage is anything close to an actual F440 apart from the engine.
