If you've seen some of my recent threads then you know i've been on a timed hunt for a car. Found out the other day insurance was only paying for the rental till sunday so the search kicked into high gear. Yesterday i picked up this:
92 740 Turbo Wagon. I ended up spending $1980, I'm the second owner. The body of the car is in superb condition for Ohio, as is the leather interior. It has new tires and everything works as it should minus the heated seats. Only problems are some brake squeal and bad hatch struts. The amazing/scary part? The car has 263K miles. Wish i could have found a 5-speed car but i've always wanted a Volvo wagon so it'll do. Anything i should know about Volvo's? I've always liked them but never owned them and could use some informing.
Last week I saw this on the board classifieds and decided i needed it:
It's an 89 Civic wagon with a B18A1. It was hit by a snow plow so it needs new doors on the driver's side. Current plans are to raise it back to stock height, get new doors, and adjust the clutch. It'll mainly be used for paper delivery and maybe an autocross if i can manage to sneak one in this year.
If that wasn't enough i've got this sitting in the driveway:
78 Datsun 510 Wagon. To be fair it's my brothers but it used to be mine. Look for a for sale thread coming soon.
So that's my wagon filled week. The wife's looking for a car too and i'm trying to steer her in the wagon direction but no such luck so far.
enjoy!
Jacques
I've seen that Volvo wagon on CL...was going to tell you about it, but you said that you wanted something local. They did come down on the price.

Yeah, i'd had my eye on it but location and price kept me away. When i saw it had come down and my timetable for getting something was drastically shortened i jumped.
Eagerly awaiting 510 wagon details/FS thread
Wagons ho!
Regarding the volvo: IPD is your new best friend. Turbobricks and Swedespeed best places to start reading. For dealer type stuff, I've had good luck with Richardson Volvo which does business online as myswedishparts. Cool car - have fun.

Brake noise is built in at the factory. ABS = annoying brake squeal on the 7/9 series cars.
Maybe it's from being on this website, but have seen a few 7 series come up for sale in my area as well. I almost never see a 5 speed tho.
There have been a few Civic wagons that I have looked at in the past. A AWD 4th gen. a few years ago at a Ford dealer was tempting....but I didn't have any cash. A "buy it here" stealership here has a 3rd gen Civic wagon that I keep telling myself I will go look at....I want to swap a B18/5 speed into it if I get it. Still kicking myself for not buying tne 4th gen. Civic AWD wagon I looked at 20 years ago.....very cool car.
Which trans. does the 510 have?
If it were me, on that Volvo, in the rearmost window on each side, I would place this logo done in white and centered in the window.
Congrats on your Radio Flyer.
He'd need to edit the image so that it said "Sweden's Original Little Red Wagon"

Oohhh, Turbo Brick!! Me likey!!
I'm a member of the Volvo Turbo Wagon club within the past week or so as well. Mine IS a 5 speed, but it also has a crankcase full of latte . Head gasket forthcoming.
Too bad you're many hours away...I have an '89 Civic (4 door) with good doors...and other body parts for that matter) that could donate doors if they're the same.
And yeah...post details about that Datsun. I'll be in Columbus in the next week or two ;).

That was just the best logo only version that I could quickly find. Personally I would drop the second line to get more like this look.
How do you feel about going all the way with the logo big on the cars belt line and white rims with red center caps?
I need me some brick... when I bought my saab, my father teased me that a volvo was in my future
Datsun now posted in $2010 classifieds for all interested.
Now i've been putting premium in the Volvo. Necessary, or will mid-grade do?
A friend of mine who Is a Volvo mechanic had a wagon like that(I'm not sure of the year). That thing was such a sleeper. Ever since riding in his I've alway given much respect to the brick.
I've never seen a 740 Turbo w/out alloy wheels.
TurboBricks are great cars.
Walkinshaw Racing Agrees.
I have had good luck with SAAB parts from this place:

They do SAAB, BMW, Volvo and Mini.

I'd recommend it. Especially once the boost is turned up
Man, there is one of those wagons (its an 88 though) on my local Craigslist with a 5-speed and some IPD goodies for only $800/b.o. Very tempting! If only I had the room. If anyone is in the Boston MA area that is looking for one, it looks like a steal.

Another great supplier to work with is http://www.germanautoparts.com/
Despite the name they have parts for many many Euros cars. I use them almost exclusively for my VWs. Honest shipping and top notch quality parts, I've yet to have a poor experience with them.
Sorry if that sounds a bit Spammish, but they've just treated me that well over the years.
Back to the wagon: I've found myself leering at Swede wagons of late and this is a nice find!

If you're only going to watch one, watch the second one. Its better.
Since you're sorta close-ish and all the brick heads will be reading this anyway, I've organized an informal gathering of Swedes on March 13th in Louisville KY at 1pm. Directions can be had here. That morning is Cars and Coffee at the Java Brewing Company in Prospect KY. Second Saturday of each month, it looks to be pretty cool.
Love the wagon, especially the color.
I have decided a 1979 mercury zephyr is on my list of wagons. Add 302 and let the fun begin. The reason I am going zephyr is I always liked the look of 4 headlights compared to the 2 that the fairmont had.
This already ash the 302. Loose the "wood" do it up in flat black and black steel rims with some tasteful red pin stripes.
I have a 940 turbo wagon and Im in Cincy. We must drag race soon.
