Watching Formula D and everyone is running V8's!? And seems like NA V8's at that.....
And one guy running a Z4. Got beat by a Hyundai.

Didn't see a tc....
Bunch of s13/14s running V8's. Millens V8 genesis, a camaro, a Z4...
Granted I only caught about half the show, but was surprising to not see any turbo 4's. Sure in the less than pro ranks there are still plenty.
weeeird they had an article in one of the ricey mags about the papadakis tc early in the year, said they were just about the only team that wasnt running a v8. they may have given in for this season though and switched over to the dark side. lol
One scion has a 2ar and one has a 2az, don't forget about John russakoff's ae86 that he was running a longitudinal k24. That was a pretty cool swap there's a good article somewhere on the net about it.
I believe Walker Wilkerson still runs an SR20DET and is competitive in pro drift.
Rookie of the year and fan favorite in 2011, IIRC.
Hmm, maybe just this event. But just seems like last year there was pretty much just the falken mustang and an oddball vette running V8's. Now seeing the nissans with v8's is just wierd. I've seen a few of the builds. Very nice. Gotta love V8's with ITB's
I dont follow it that much but i was watching a rerun i think from last years formula d and the announcer mentioned tanner foust tc is v8 power.
From everything that I understand from knowing some drifters is this:
They want torque.
Lots of it.
Big, wide-open bands of torque.
The whole thing comes down to the fact that a V8 has torque at pretty much any RPM, while a turbo-4....doesn't when making 500 hp. Big torque on a big powerband makes it easier to control, and also gives the big, smoking tire slides that the crowds and judges love.
You can't get big, tire-roasting slides, out of a 4AGE the same way as a LS1.

There's a local guy with an FC RX7 that does pretty well with his GT35R pressurized 13B.

Last year I only saw 2 V8's. Von Gitten's Mustang and a Corvette. At some time, I think Falken also had a 69 camaro.
I watched an episode of Formula D last night and noticed that every car was running a V8 engine. This seemed quite strange to me, since nearly everyone was running 4 cylinders, a few V6's and straight 6's last year.
I've seen a few of the nissan v8 builds on the internet.
V8's engines with independent throttle bodies sound good. Makes me feel funny in my pants.

Yep drove a car with a scaled-down version of this setup on the weekend, lots of torque and a spool in the back means that you can start a drift any time by hitting the gas when the steering wheel isn't straight and it's super easy to control.
