On the other hand, it would be nice if shops didn't put monster speedbumps in their parking lots. Ideally they should be under 4" tall, that's about the lowest ground clearance you'll find on a production car that's not a silly track toy with 2 or less seats and no roof. But if a car with 5-7" ground clearance is scraping you really messed up. the Toyobaru is actually at 5" from the factory even though it looks like it has plenty.

Those speedbumps are just going to get filed down anyway and then they'll look crappy. Meet us half way.

The worst are the ones that aren't just normal foot-wide bumps, but they're like 4-5 feet across, just perfect for high siding the entire bottom of the vehicle between the wheels.

I've high-sided on those before. That E36 M3 is awful.

Also: Same goes to the morons that built the driveways in my neighborhood. It's a tortured 4-step affair to get my stock height Miata in and out of my driveway without tearing off the bumper, mudflaps, or punching in my frame.

I have no idea what to do when the MX6 gets back on the road. It won't clear that.

This was a fairly benign entrance. And that's what made it so funny. I've lowered the Abarth about 1-1.25" and the MR2 was lowered about 1.5" before I got it, so I get crazy speed bumps that suck. But when you join "Stance Nation" and scrape the ground over a pebble? berkeley you haha.

Ah... memories of driving my E30 around after I installed the plastic OE lip. After ripping it off twice, I quickly learned to approach parking lot entrances at an angle... and then blaze86vic ripped it off loading the car onto his trailer. I understood why Sonic never replaced the damn thing, but it looked incomplete without it. I bought a set of IS OE springs I was going to install had I kept the car.

You were just watching someone gain some Experience. Wisdom may or may not follow.

Lord knows it takes me a while.

I'm really annoyed that I have to take the "long route" to work, which is about 1/8 mile longer. Why though? Because of a speed bump. I drive a Miata, year round. If something can handle a midwestern winter, it should be good enough to handle anything on a normal day.

Car in question is an NB Miata with Flyin Miata suspension.

There is a special place in hell for property owners that are so callous about damaging the cars of their tenants' customers...Especially when the best teriyaki joint in town is on the other side!

You guys clearly don't live up north. We have frost heaves bigger than speed bumps!

I actually put VR6 Golf springs on my 2.0L Golf to raise it - not lower it.

I thought the purpose of those big speed bumps was to see how much air you could get.

The trick to speedbumps is to "defeat them" by driving head on at them at 90 miles an hour. You will go so fast that your suspension will compress and re-extend before the actual car body even feels the bump. /sarcasm

While I'm not low, I have major trouble going though one of the city parks in St. Louis. Tower Grove park has massive speed bumps, and while my E36 isn't low, it has been lowered ~1 inch. The first time I approached a speed bump at 10 mph, I caught massive frame rail on the bump, which may be 5 inches high. Horrible time driving through that park as most people were zooming around doing 35 mph and barely slowing down for the bumps.

As a guy who drove a slammed rabbit truck for a couple years I am not laughing at anyone. I would high center the oil pan in the ridges in the center Of the road, I liked the way it looked and there are plenty of vw oil pans around.

I always want to laugh at these guys but at the same time I dont because they are fellow enthusiasts who just have a different view on what a car can be.

Years ago, I attended a commercial shoot by Mitsubishi. It was for the new EVO 8, and they filmed part of it at a Mitsubishi race shop that specialized in rally and track cars. They invited a bunch of Mitsubishi enthusiasts to bring their cars. There were two pretty diverse groups. One was the shops regular clientele, with Eclipses and Evo's that were mostly faster than they looked. Then there was the "tuner" group, with n/a Eclipses and Lancers that had more power in their stereos than under their hoods. Big body kits, lots of stickers, neon, wings, and of course, slammed to the ground. The director wanted a shot of one particularly over the top all show and no go Eclipse on the lift inside the shop. This presented an unexpected problem. Most cars that see the inside of the shop are actually functional. This one couldn't make it up the standard curb cut. Nothing particularly challenging, but the one inch lip of concrete was just too much. We had to have a couple guys on each side lift the front of the car to clear the lip. We were amazed that he was even able to drive the car on the street.

High speedbumps cost me two E30 oil pans back in the day. Expensive, irritating things to replace.
