When I bought the Focus, I had to borrow $10k to get the 1.9% CPO deal. Tried to put more down. I don't like having a car payment. Three years is max for me. The benefit is I don't have any stress about fixing a car to get to work. There are enough other stressers in life to deal with broken cars. I can always drive the FX16 in a pinch, but the Focus is way more comfortable.
I want an Alfa 4C. If I could buy a stripped,, new one at the $54,000 base price they publish, I'd be tempted to sell my present road and track car and old E36 and go for it. Which means Lotus, I think.

You have better stuff now anyways imo.
I like to stretch the buck and give less than 1K for a reliable daily driver. I might throw a few hundy at it for repairs and drive it until the wheels fall off. On the other hand, I'll throw in up to 3K for a project car and dump stupid money into it. Cash is the only way I fly.
Cash only for me. About $5k is my normal max. The Mustang GT we just bought for my wife was $5200.
This might get me banned, but I've got better things to spend money other than depreciating tools/toys.

I am actually in the early stages of car shopping for a new DD for myself and can't make up my mind how much I want to spend. It is hard to find a sweet spot between cheap and yet meets all my needs. I would probably end up with a leftover 2015 Fiat 500 (cheap!), but I need the ability to transport two people plus two bicycles and sundry equipment without a lot of hassle. Anyone aware of a new wagon (preferably with a manual transmission) that is priced similar to a 2015 Fiat micro-car??? Hence the what car threads...
It'll be used but Mazda 5 will swallow two bikes whole, more crap and two people no problem. I know its a 'van' but its close to a wagon.
To answer the op question, I haven't gone over $13k for a vehicle financed and I probably wouldn't go over that. Once I pay off the 5, I am going to run the wheels off of it..
