And it's not going so well.

Summit raised the price by almost $30.

So i decided to see who else had it. I'll be damned, Advance shows it! For $235 shipped! THEN, i can add the "JN15" code for 15% off, which puts it down to $200 shipped, AND they'll send me a $50 off $100 coupon! Awesome!

Tried to order, then it shows as out of stock once i try to pay. Hrmmmm.... Time for customer service!

You: hi, i'm trying to order Griffin part number 2-26185-X You: says that quantities are unavailable once i try to check out, but gives no other indication prior to that Jasmine: I apologize that your experience in placing this online order is not going as smoothly as had expected. Let me see what I can do to help you today. You: from what i understand, this is a built-to-order radiator and nobody really stocks it in the first place. Jasmine: Not sure why it didn't show for you in the beginning of the order but that message means the part is out stock You: it's not in stock anywhere... because nobody stocks it. They're made by griffin once they receive an order from the vendor Jasmine: Our store maybe able to special order the part, have you spoke with our store? You: i haven't yet... would i still get the JN15 discount applied in store? You: if not, then there's no real advantage to ordering it through your store than via Summit, where i can actually order it online Jasmine: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment. You: no worries Jasmine: If it done in store you would have to speak with a store manager to have the code honored You: would they actually honor it, though? Jasmine: It depends on the manager Jasmine: They have the option to honor or not You: heh, i don't have time for a crap shoot. I'll just order from Summit. Thanks! Jasmine: You are welcome Jasmine: I apologize for the inconvenience. Jasmine: Thank you for chatting with Advance Auto Parts. J

Well, that's not gone well.

I'm looking for Griffin 2-26185-X.

Anyone got any ideas? Summit wants $272 shipped. While i do have something else i need to order from Summit, i'm cheap.

Rock Auto? Dunno if they carry Griffin, but I've had nothing but good experiences with them. I've been very happy with their prices and brand selection.

I used RockAuto for many things for this build, but i'm not looking for a model-specific unit in this case, unfortunately. The Griffin is the only known radiator that fits what i'm trying to do.

Why can i special order things not currently in stock through Summit's site, but not Advance's? That doesn't make any sense.

Sounds like an exercise in futility. Just order it. The time you spend trying to save the $30 will make up for the difference.

$72 dollar difference with the promo code even before the $50 off $100 coupon comes into play.

Hell, i'm not even really getting the same answers from two people. (Not trying to answer shop, was trying to find out if there was a loophole that would let me special order through the website at first.)

Thank you for chatting with Advance Auto Parts and Batteries. You are now chatting with Stephen. How may I assist you today? You: Hi Stephen, are we not able to special order through your website? Stephen: Only through the store, I apologize for the inconvenience You: ok, riddle me this, then.... if i have to special order through the store, would the JN15 promo code still apply? Stephen: No

$272 is cheap for a radiator, especially a custom one. I don't think it's worth it to shop at one of those discount/scam auto parts suppliers over ordering from summit and spending even an extra $70 (which is probably irrelevant because the other place has no intention of ever selling one at the price you saw).

I suppose i can still go into their store and order it for $235.

But yeah, good point. Just trying to find a catch can or two on Summit right now then i'll shoot the order through.

I got a radiator recently from this place. Had the item in 3 days after it was ordered. Best price I could find and an exact match.

Didn't know AllTrac radiators were so cheap! Nice to know just in case i ever buy one.

I'm scatterbrained today. I should have said that this was for the SMF KLZE-Powered 93 Escort GT build.

For crying out loud its really easy!

Pick up the phone and call your local Advance Auto's Tell them you have a coupon question and need to speak to the manager.

Manager picks up the phone, ask them "Do you honor online coupon Herp Derp?"

Possible Answers:

Yes. Get the managers name, drive to store if they cant process you over the phone, do you thing, order, pay, and schedule pickup. Get it in writing, etc.

No: Call the next store or call back the next day early in the morning to get a different manager and try again. You should eventually get someone to honor the rebate.

Online chat is useless, those people have no power nor do they know anything at Tier 1. Store managers can do damn near anything they want in the name of customer satisfaction up to a 20% discount without it getting flagged by corporate so you may do even better than online.

For crying out loud, i didn't realize I worked at a place that allowed personal calls at work!

Step-by-step spoon-feeding for dummies, but Holier-than-thou attitude not necessary, thanks.

As my original post said, i don't have time for a crap shoot/goose chase. Ordered from Summit.

If you work 8 hrs, you should get 2 15 minutes breaks and a 30 minute break per day. If you work less than 8 hours, you should have plenty of time to call on your drive home. The ADvances near my house are open 7A-10P, 7 days a week. Do you work 7A-10P, 7 days a week?

Plenty of time to do some research.

Why even post if you were going to go to Summit anyway?

I work 12 hour days, am not allowed to bring my phone in with me, nor can i make personal calls from my desk.

Again. It needed to be ordered yesterday.

But you know what? I'm actually on the phone with Advance right now because you're bugging me.

Ready for the skinny as to why Advance sucks?

They can't order it online because it's not showing in stock. Well duh, because nobody stocks it.

The stores will not honor online codes.

The stores cannot special order the radiator because Griffin isn't showing any in their warehouse. (Which makes sense, because they build as an order comes.)

So, if i try to go through Advance, Advance won't order because Griffin doesn't have any in stock. Griffin won't build because they won't get an order from Advance.

I'm on the main line right now asking them why the berkeley they even have the part number listed on their site in the first place.

I do hope this has improved your quality of life, because it's doing wonders for me.

As for why i posted? 1) Because i felt like it. 2) Because while it may not be to you, but the $72 + $50 off $100 coupon is a big deal to someone like me.

Been on the phone with Advance for an hour now. If i do have to give some props, their phone customer service reps are VERY good.

She's called Corporate, has Corporate trying to get ahold of Griffin, and right now has me on hold while she calls the two stores in my area that i called who wouldn't order.

If she can pull this off, i'll cancel the order with Summit

But there's NO way i would have had this kinda time yesterday.

If I worked 12 hr days, 7 days a week (ASSumed by your post since you do not have free time to call a local Advance, EVAR!), you probably have earned enough overtime to just BUY Griffin Radiator, and have them build you a radiator for your Smokin' Joes Moon Rover or1986 Chrysler Batmobile, or whatever it is you are building.

But then your 2nd post says the $122 savings you can realize over Summit is worth it. Assuming you make around $25/hr, 12 hr days (so actually 14 hour days figuring time and a half for anything over 8 hrs, making your total per hour pay around $29/hr, you are right your time is worth more if it takes more than 4 hrs total to get this sorted and you should have just ordered from Summit.)

Better cancel that order with Summit ASAP, if its truly custom like you say you need to cancel it before its processed or you are SOL.

What part of "i wanted it ordered YESTERDAY" is so hard to understand that i have to post it for the 4th time in this thread? Did i have free time YESTERDAY when Advance was open to call? Absolutely not. You can stop beating that dead horse now. Thanks.

I am not working today. But today isn't yesterday.

Are you basing your pay off what you make? Or what i make? I have no idea where you're getting these numbers from, nor do i understand why this is so important to you that you have this burning desire to be an shiny happy person about it. This is not the first thread i've seen you E36 M3 all over just because you in your different life than the OP would have done something differently.

I spent two hours on it (at your suggestion since you were so vehement that i was doing it all wrong) and got nowhere. I'm cutting my "losses" and sticking with the Summit order.

Thanks so much for your "help" and "input." I'm sorry i wasn't worthy.
