The last Jaguar V12's didn't have a distributor. They ECM basically triggered 6 coils with 2 leads on each coil. When one cylinder fires the other cylinder dry fires on the exhaust stroke.
Mine is a basic Megasquirt 2357-C
if all I want to do is control the spark can I use this? It's a major pain to adjust timing on a V12. The distributor only allows 3 degrees of timing change. Even that requires taking it 1/2 way apart then adjusting it blind and reassembling then crawling underneath to see the timing marks on the bottom of the engine.
I thought one of the virtues of the V12 that you've extolled is that the distributor was right on top and easy to get at lol
What can't you do with a Megasquirt?
You can definitely run the V12's ignition in wasted spark mode similar to the factory system. You'll have to set up multiple injectors to be fired by a single injector driver, discussed here:

I won't be using the fuel injection. To run in group 6 I have to use carbs. So all I need to do is control the ignition.

Oh it is easy to get at. Plus I do have my own distributor machine so it's straight forward for me to get it to do what I need it to do.
It's just so much more work over a few key strokes.
I admit I've learned a lot watching video's and attending a few dyno sessions.
You can set up that Megasquit for six spark outputs, but it's either a very involved solder job or swapping to an MS3 processor and MS3X card.

I have definitely done a 6 coil version for a BMW and it wasn't fun. I can be persuaded with money to do another.

That's kinda what I thought. What do you think it would cost me to swap my current new, unused MS2 for the MS3X card and MS3 processor?
I give a $100 credit for MS2 to MS3 upgrade (I keep MS2 processor). $150 for labor and the parts are around $500 for the MS3, 3x and 8' harness.

That sounds very fair.
It definitely could be worse, I'd charge 500 just to put 6 BIP coil drivers on a MS2/3.57 it sucks a bit. The only caveat is you need to use coils with amps with the 3x drivers.
Would I be ahead if I bought an upscale MS? Something like a pro?
