Nearly worthless but it's a fox platform so all the goodies work.
All the ones I find for sale (and I'd love to have one), the owners apparently think the rust is gold filigree

Those are amazing looking but too long in the tooth. I'm looking for a reliable DD.
A V8 BMW screams "run the opposite direction" to me.

A BMW 3.6L DOHC inline 6 with individual throttle bodies just plain screams.
Haven't seen the Lexus IS300 SportCross mentioned yet. It may be a bit small on the wagon front, but you could probably hop it up pretty good out of the Toyota parts bin...
So, of the Infiniti options. Does the VK56 fit in place of the VK45 or VK50? If must because they made the M56 and Q70.
FX50 is the best Infiniti option.

Yeah, the V8 option has been popping up a lot on BaT lately. Some pretty well sorted examples still going for a reasonable amount but I definitely understand the hesitation. I've been dailying my E34 525i wagon for a decade -- 200,000 miles on the clock with routine maintenance. solid fun car.
I would not call them sleepers as they are far from fast but I love my 2 3 series wagons. I have had the e46 5 speed for about a decade & it has been super reliable, I recently added a e91 auto sport package for the wife & she is liking it better than her prius for running around town.

Lotta strikes against the Sportcross. They're rare, they're all autos, they've been struck hard by the "I know what I have" crowd and are now priced accordingly. Stock, they're pretty sluggish and contrary to online myth, a 2JZ-GTE doesn't just drop right in. If you want to spend $15k on top of the purchase price to make it quick, have at it, but there are much better bases to start with
