You said the wrong one. Don't get a smileyface 2g. Get an awesomer 1g.
For the record, the black ones are faster, the Cosmic blue ones are cursed.

With my 325iT, I averaged around 19 city, 27 hwy. Two issues come into play with that car/transmission. The first is that the wagons were fitted with a lower rear end to offset the slightly higher weight and the car cries out for a 6th gear on the hwy.

We should talk then, because I have a turbo Miata track car for sale!

Mazda 6? Manual wagons are rare, but they're out there. Rear seat room is better than the 3. Should have no trouble getting mid-20's mpg.
In reply to Ian F:
looked at a few in 06 when they were just about to kill the wagons, if any dealer received one, they just about never sold. with a sticker of 30k, they were priced way out of the market. looked at one 05 that had been on the lot 400+ days. right off the bat they knocked 10k off, and would have probably gone down under 20 if i had been more serious about buying.
I didn't think of this car before but saw an is300 sportcross today. i know they are all automatic but would be a cheap car to maintain how is the mpg on those?

This was going to be my suggestion, very cool and rare cars. Definitely not something you see everyday...I think its been at least a year since I have seen one!
I have owned a couple 2jz powered cars, closest to the IS was my SC. It was inexpensive to maintain, the mpg is not stellar though. I averaged 17-18, but that includes lots of back roads adventures. If I Bob Costas footed it I could manage around 26-27 hwy mpg.
I think the coefficient of drag between an IS sportx and SC are close. But do keep in mind my SC was modified, lightened about 350lbs and a 5 spd. But I don't think the numbers would be that far off.
Personally I would try and find a 2005 Legact 2.5GT wagon in a 5spd. I believe 2005 was the only year for a manual.
Another option is an A4 1.8T Avant.
All of these have been suggested but hopefully I was of some help to you!

SWMBO has outlawed Volvo station wagons, but I wonder if I campaigned hard enough...
"But honey, it's so I can haul the dog around!"
Damn, that thing looks good.
My mom's (2006?) Saab 9-3 Sportcombi is a pretty fun car with the turbo ecotec, even though it's an automatic.
It's this nice light bluish color:
(Side note: My dad did some rough interior measurements regarding his H3, at the time, and the Saab...the Saab won in most cases)
Only problem is finding the appropriate LGT wagon (IE a manual) with any sort of reasonable miles on it is difficult, at best, and they command a helluva premium.

Yeah, I saw that with a quick search. It's going to be tricky to find something that I can fit a German Shepherd in the back of, enjoy driving, make fast, and get approval for.
In reply to unevolved:
Nice. I would have considered one of those instead of the V70R, but up in New England that car is probably asking at least 10 or 11.
Too bad about the Volvo veto. The R is a hell of a car.
Ugh, I'm going through this same debacle now.
No Saabs; terrified of the parts situation.
No Volvos; they all are turbos that need premium fuel.
Mazda 6; yeah, if I could even find one.
Jeep Patriot; the 4x4 with stick version continues to prove elusive. 4x2 has zero resale around here.
Mazda 3; too small, too ugly.
BMW 3 series; man would I love one, but in my price range they are getting a bit old.
Probably stuck with another Subaru, which isn't a bad thing, I'm just sort of bored with them.
The 5 banger Turbo Volvos run fine on regular. Oregon regular anyway. My manual says the minimum octane requirement is AKI 87 (RON 91) for a high pressure turbo. It goes faster with premium for sure but it goes fast enough on reg.

Oh man I love your car, I always wanted one of those in a wagon form. Do you have a 5 speed?
My wife has 08 Mazda 3 (NON-speed) and she averages 30 MPG. Manual trans, power everything else. Not a lot of backseat leg room, and to me it needs more power, but...it has been a great car for us. 80k miles and we plan on driving it into the ground.
Right now I DD a 02 Subaru Outback 6cyl auto. The Subaru is heavier and feels better planted. The only drawback is that the Subaru averages about 22-23 MPG. The later 05+ body style gets a little better gas mileage. And of course the 4cyl would get better than the 6cyl.
We like both cars. I will admit that the Mazda is a much younger/sleeker car. The Outback I expect to see older people driving.
I didn't see it, but if kids are a concern, you can easily fit two car seats in either car, but with the Outback the passenger doesn't have to sit on the dash to get the car seat in the back. There is also more room for kids junk in the Outback as it has a larger cargo space.
Before getting the Outback I looked at the WRX and it has less room than the outback or the Mazda 3.
Hope that helps.

MS3 are just WRX's minus the AWD. Very similar styling wise. I drove one when they first came out and was thinking of trading in my mazdaspeed miata, but really wasn't all that impressed.

Funny, with MSM's the Titanium Gray ones are cursed, the Velocity Red ones attract the most attention, but the Lava Orange Metallic ones are the fastest.
Do all cars have a cursed color or only mazdaspeed vehicles?
