Tiny Subaru vans, with a flat-4 under the floor and AWD would be awesome!

And having seen them in Germany...

Why do we not get this car?!?!? Even without the R32, just a GTi version!

+1, if we're talking fairly new cars I could reasonably afford. If Mazda sold this car here I could be in trouble... In the used market the list is longer and more varied and I have no idea about prices.

There's a lot of awesome stuff in this thread, but the Mazda 6 diesel wagon is the one that I would immediately trade my WRX in for.

EDIT: And I actually keep finding it pretty ugly, at least in pictures (I suspect it's better looking in person). It's just the notion of a diesel wagon with Mazda driving dynamics is about the best idea on offer.

It's totally outside the scope of the OP's question, but what I really want is for Mazda to revert the 5 to the previous styling and put the diesel in it...

I think for me, covering the time period that i could 'afford' (technically) a new car, the only things that were new that i really wanted and couldnt have, were the diesel/6mt Legacy Wagon, and the CRD Dodge Magnum (actually called 300 touring, i think).

The thing i want right now, probably cant afford, and might technically be available in the US, is a VW XL1.

I'd have a hard time picking between these two.

R34 Skyline and Scirocco for me. Both such beautiful and capable cars.

Holden Ute or M5 touring wagon for me. Actually, more like 5-series diesel wagon. I know my dad would have purchased a diesel 5 instead of his WRX if he'd been able to get one here.

Heck. Just manual, diesel, room to haul stuff, and enthusiast-worthy suspension.
