Did a little digging and found the following link.

Who knew that the Panamerican HWY started in Alaska?

Based on what I read, the Camry is still the top of my list. If worried about getting stuck. toss in a cheap winch to pull you out of mud holes?

...and you MUST to ship the car from Panama to Columbia! There is not road accros the Darien Gap. Description of shipping protocol sounds like a whole lot of fun.

A Camry is actually a pretty good idea. Get some tall 70 series tires and have a great trip. There are plenty of Corollas as taxi cabs in Central America also. The only place without a strong Toyota presence is Mexico. Nissans are more popular there.
