My 13 yo son and I were rambling on about cars a couple days ago. We happen to have a (presumably) rebuildable old 327 in the garage. The thought exercise of the day was what car could we put that engine into? I was thinking Chevy Monza (pretty much extinct) and Malibu. Maybe Camaro, maybe Corvette, but looking to keep the buy-in pretty low. Can't even rule out something like an RX-7 or Miata. What old GM car, or what newer vehicle with a well-documented (and easy) SBC swap?
And don't try to talk me out of the 327. The rebuilding process is going to be a learning opportunity for both of us, and I already own it! I'm not looking for crazy fast, just a nice driver.
S10
3rd gen f-body
Fox...lots of different Fox...
Volvo 240
AMC Spirit maybe?
Square body Chevy/GMC truck
Jag XJ?
That's what I thought of off the top of my head.
What car do you want to own when you're done?
I know lots of people put LS engines in things that came with SBCs- by that logic, the one fits where the other does. So anything that gets an LS swap can therefore get an SBC swap.
On that basis I vote RX8- they're nice and at this point cheaper than any generation of RX7 in equivalent condition.
Volvo 240
Studebaker Lark
S-10
Anything but a foxbody. Id look at G-body's,the regal, cutlass, monte, malibu. Bonus points for el camino.

I vote c3 corvette. Low buy in. Cool car at the end.
We have a factory 300hp 327 in the family, backed by a 4 speed and its my favorite sbc ive driven. That includes a plethora of 350s and the 383 in the family
Keep 'em coming! I had forgotten about the Volvo. That has possibilities. I hate midget trucks, so S10 is out. Like the C3 idea, but already owned one and sold it because only 2 seats. G-body is spot-on. My son and I already both like the El Camino, but that and any old truck still suffers from a lack of seating. RX-8 worthy of consideration. Any links to build threads?

I was going to say an A/G body or a Jaguar.
It's been done before but 80s Monte Carlos and el caminos are pretty cheap and look great when Done up nice.
In reply to 1988RedT2:
Do you want to fuel it with a carburetor it injection when all is said and done? If you want injection I'd start with something more modern that already may have some of the needed hardware on it.
In reply to HappyAndy:
Carby is fine. One day I want to Megasquirt a 1000 HP twin turbo SBC, but not this one.

Ha! Everyone knows that they all turned to rust decades ago! No, I want something pretty easy to find and pretty cheap. And pretty.
lack of seating is no reason not to el camino.
I love the idea of a carbed 327 in an RX8 for the sheer pig headedness of it.
Vovlo, jag, g-body all have their charms although I personally hate the G-bodies. S-10 would be cool if you want to go to the strip but I wouldn't want to drive one around town.
older chevy pickup is an easy-button answer. Hell, whatever older GM body you can find will work if you want it to.
Ive seen SBFs in old 4wd Toyota pickups, surely a 327 would fit? Jeeps are too expensive on other parts.
Oooh, what about a Fiero? or a rear engine VW dune buggy chassis?
Im partial to the c3 vette idea.
