...or how to ID a car with almost no information. Here it goes:
Looked like an '80s or maybe even early 90's black hatchback of some sort. It went screaming by me on the highway so I barely got a glimpse, but it did have a couple of distinguishing features that I thought were unusual. It had no brand or model insignia so I assume it was debadged. However, it did have the words "Intercooled" on the rear in that '80s geometric lettering that Chrysler used (though it could've been Ford, too). My first thoughts were either a GLHS or Daytona, but from a quick google search neither of those look right and it looked a little large to be on the Omni platform. Unfortunately, I didn't get a look at the front, but since I didn't notice it behind me it's probably relatively bland style wise. It sounded like it had a huge turbo and smelled like it was running super rich. Any '80s turbo hatchbacks from a (probably) U.S. manufacturer that came intercooled from the factory that fit my oh-so-generic description?

Brain is telling me shelby lancer, but for whatever reason, google tells me no, as it only shows me red ones and the badges dont work, but..... The only "intercooled" badge i came up with in that era belongs to a grand national. Definitely not anonymous.
I believe some Starion/Conquest had big "Intercooled" logos on them.
Glhs had intercooled badging.
Isuzu impulse maybe? Everyone forgets about them.

Never were intercooled. Ford rejiggered the underhood for '89 to make room for an intercooler but they never actually put one on the car.

Willfully.
I don't remember if mine had a big intercooled badge on the side/back. I know it had one on the intercooler itself, which was great since most of my interaction with the car involved being under the hood and not driving it.
Now I'm going to have to go to therapy again

Nah, one of these:
Same color/interior but it was an '85. IIRC it was something like 1 of 100.
In reply to Knurled:
Were those intercooled from the factory?
Could you see if it was right hand drive or not? I've seen quite a few Japanese imports on the road lately.
In reply to Woody:
Yes, little maybe 6x6 unit in front of the radiator, some of the plumbing went straight in front of it too.

No, didn't catch a glimpse. Though, I thought about a euro Ford for a minute.
Unfortunately, not a Saab or Volvo or Audi GT either. Those are actually all over the place here.
.
The Cordia Turbo didn't run intercooler badges...
Nor seeing it on the I-Mark
Don't think the Subaru RX was intercooled...
