There is a steady small (mv) draw from some of the radio and clock stuff that stays live. Pull the negative or put a trickle charger on it if you plan to park it for that long.

Yeah, I know... never planned on it sitting for that long... ...with any luck, it'll move on to a new and hopefully more loving owner in the next week or so.

I replaced the negative cable off of the battery to the chassis on the Miata. Why would I need to do that, you may ask? Because the battery is an incorrect sized one and the hold down hardware is gone missing by the PO. The battery flopped around enough to dent the quarter and wear the cable until it popped when I tried to start it.

We've been working on an engine/suspension/brake replacement/refresh on an '89 900S for a friend to drive. Last night, we got the exhaust back on it, radiator in, plugged an extra vacuum port on the replacement engine, hooked up the power steering hard line and filled the system with fluid, and clutch installed. It starts and runs. We still need to get the cooling system buttoned up and filled, bleed the brakes and clutch, and install rear shocks. I'm really looking forward to hammering on the finished product AND getting it out from under my carport.

My 300te has reverse again!!! Neutral safety switch is bad on both trans so I have to order one of those; otherwise tighten up the exhaust and some heatshiels and back into operation!

Put the water pump, alternator, and power steering pump back together on the wagon. Started up and seems to run fine. Had one hose leaking but tightening the clamp seems to have fixed that. I might be leaking power steering fluid, I need to get more and see. Maybe that hose is loose too? I'm taking it for a drive tomorrow.

Started the '81 Chevy PU project after sitting dormant for a year. Charge battery. Fresh fuel in a two gallon can bungeed to the frame, drop fuel pump lines in. Filled Holley fuel bowls through vents, shot of ether, choke. Bingo, it runs again.

Last night i started sanding on the Met but instead I swapped wheels on my brothers car and found out the EGR tube threads are smashed flat and that's why it ran like crap.

After church today I found an easy to fix coolant leak but didn't gave time to fix it. Changed MILs water pump and thermostat.

1995 Chevy Lumina. 10 minutes to change water pump... 2 hours to change a thermostat.

My knuckles are beat to heck. My projects can wait.

I put gas in the Mini and drove it to a car show. Had over a half-dozen kids in it with their parents' taking pictures. I overheard one parent say, "that's the first time he's ever said a car was 'cool'" Just trying to do my part to plant a classic-car seed into the next generation.

Nice! That should look good on the Shark.

In my 924s

Changed oil

Fixed the oil temp sender and replaced the wire that was burnt due to it hitting the exhaust manifold. Properly routed it to both the sensor as well as I actually did a proper routing through the firewall.

Replace the wiring to the water temp sensor and did the same as above with respect to routing.

Cleaned up some wiring in the dash (funny looking at what I thought was acceptable wiring 20 years back LOL)

Completely isolated the intake system from all the other vacuum lines that come off of it. I have been chasing a vacuum leak and narrowed it down to the evap system or the idle speed control loop. Since both are interconnected I just isolated them both and plumbed the brake master in directly. This fixed my weird vacuum issue and should greatly improve drivability of the car and I can undo the weird map I had to run for timing (it is a map based EDIS system)

Next up will be to remove all the spaghetti of vacuum lines that are now not needed along with the ISCM that I think is bad that I don't need as I use the timing map to control idle

However as usual while looking around under the car I found more to do.

Replace the boots on the inner tie rod ends at the rack

Replace the swaybar bushing

Replace the front oil seal on the motor (this really means I have to replace all the seals on the front of the motor)

Replace fount tires as the inside edge of passenger side is to the cords. I have another set BUT

This is obviously telling me that I need an alignment as I replaced a bunch of front end stuff last spring and never got around to the alignment. (I hate being so busied that I forget these things)

Remove gas tank to find leak in the NEW tank I just put in two years ago :-(

Tightened the new alternator belt to stop the squeaking and took the wagon out to get milk in the rain. The wiper switch isn't in a very ergonomic location. When the car is warm and moist the squirrel pee smell comes back. I think the fan clutch is dead. It's only $30 and four bolts to change.

I disassembled the rear subframe so I can weld in some reinforcements, dropped the gas tank out (so I don't melt/explode it when welding in some plates). It will be going back in with much stiffer springs and some ride height adjustment too.

changed an axle on the CRX ... after my totally screwed up attempt to take my Integra back towards stock (remove Koni coil-overs and replace with OEM) and having to give up and have it towed to my mechanic .... figured I stood a good chance to loose my man/car guy card ...

this was a big undertaking for me ... as best I can tell it came out ok ... I'll take it out for a short drive tomorrow ... maybe this gets me back my card

I'm reassembling my 1962 Sprite that I painted like 5 years ago and have been continuously too busy to get back to since.

In the last week - coinciding w/ race season being over, our dear, old sick cat getting helped off this mortal coil, and me having time off due to the government shutdown - I've been productive.

  • Installed a new carpet set, detailed and re-installed all the panels, painted the frames and detailed the seats and installed them.

  • Pedal box, master cylinder, accelerator pedal and cable. underhood wiring, brake lines, headlight and turn signal wiring, engine wiring.

  • Tach, speedo cables, blast and paint hood latch parts, install, adjust.

Tomorrow, buy fluids and battery, Fill and bleed brakes - I made a neat expanding plug adapter so I can use a motive power bleeder w/ the Sprite master - finish cooling system and fill, engine, trans and diff lubes, connect fuel line.

Then hook up 12v and start verifying all the circuits. Once that's done, set static timing, get running, tune.

Then drive it around the block and fix what doesn't work. Repeat w/ 1/2 mile, mile, 5 miles, etc.
