I'm probably going to buy a used 2006-2012 Accord sedan within the next few months. I had planned on getting a V6 but hadn't considered the hybrid until I saw one next to me on the highway today. I know nothing about them.

Enlighten me.

Within the year range you are considering, they only made hybrids for the 2006 & 2007 model years.  They basically used a bigger version of everything in the Insight or Civic Hybrids.  Expect 4cyl economy and V6 acceleration.

You'll want to build/buy a grid charger and plug it in overnight to balance the battery pack every oil change or so.

I know (courtesy of Mr. Deuce) they have some fancy aluminum bits. Other than that the only knowledge I have of Honda hybrids is that the old Civic Hybrid (2002?) was unbelievably slow. Like downshift to 3rd on the highway (manual car).

I downshift to 3rd on the highway in cars that arent slow, too!

The 06-07 Accord Hybrid had the regular 240hp j30 v6 plus an IMA motor for a total combined of ~255. I've driven them and worked on them for non-hybrid reasons. They don't feel much faster than regular V6 versions except for part throttle torque, like in the 30-50% range just before you get a downshift. They have the same auto trans as the regular v6 would have.

The IMA batteries aren't reliable and tons of them have issues already. You can find 'broken' (IMA light on, system disabled) ones on CL fairly regularly. Grid charging (which is also balance charging) is a huge help for a battery that hasn't broken yet, and can even bring back ones that have already set the IMA light, for a while, in some cases.

They do get better mpg than the non-v6 ones, but not as good as a newer 4cyl one. They are fairly fast for an old family car (~94mph trap speed ish). I harbor a desire to do a j35/36 swap into one with some minor IMA mods, but they aren't that cheap... yet.

I did a timing belt on one once. I think they're a little tighter on that side because of the IMA motor sandwiched in the middle, but i still got through it.
