Supporting the sill instead of the pinch weld means you can also jack anywhere along the sill instead of just at the factory reinforced jacking points. For example, if you jack under the mirror of a Miata you can lift both front and rear tires off the ground at one time. Big time saver in a quick tire change, and it also leaves your jacking points free to put a stand there.
I just ordered one. Looks like it should work fine on both of my Honda Fits. Much better than the thin rubber pad that came with my Harbor freight floor jack.

My present "quick jack" has a thick rubber pad. Has been used on 4 cars over the years, no damage.
I noticed yesterday that the pad is getting kind of scruffy. Time to look for that block of wood.
I used to have a really nice one that I bought years ago for my VW MKIV (or maybe the ex's VW B3). I think my ex- ended up with it somehow in the split. It was about 4" diameter, at least 2" tall with the slot about 3/4" deep and made from a relatively soft yellow poly. The brand name was Pro-something (not Prothane). I'll go nuts searching the web for the vendor once in awhile (and now I am again...). I bought some TMB brand pads off Amazon, but they're crap - too small, too thin and too hard.

I've never had any problem with the QJ pads either. I think it's because 1) they're pretty big and 2) you always use four at a time so the load is well distributed. I'm pretty sure you can buy replacements.
I jack the car front and rear, use jack stands with little rubber covers on the part that touches the car. Have a doo dad for the 914 that goes in the square hole for the factory jack and lets you use a floor jack. Piece of wood between floor jack and whatever I am using as a jack point.

The pad seems softer than the other options I've seen so it doesn't mar the sheet metal or paint.

Our shipping guys are on top of things! I think they're enjoying being the only ones in the building, I have heard reports of dueling stereos and tape ball fights.
