i got a set of apex wheels i want to refinish on my track car, should i rattle can, powder coat or wrap them? They are kind of beat up. What the latest?

I was always taught that wheels for racing and track cars shouldn't be powder coated, because the powder coating is more elastic than paint and could hide cracks. But I see lots of folks powder coating wheels these days.

Leave it as is and send it?

Track / race wheels get pretty dirty and stained when used often. Too much work to keep them clean. Maybe rattle can them if they are really bad but look for cracks first.

I heard some wheels should not be powdercoated depending on the material they are made from because the baking process actually weakens them.

Street wheels I care about I send off and have a professional do it for under 100 a wheel.

In this case, itd probably go inspection followed by a prep level in line with my laziness and give a dang at the final product followed up with a rattle can job in a weird color.
