I drive my Miata all winter and the 10 year old battery won't hold a charge for much more than 48 hours now. Time for a new one. What's a good choice, and from where? We've got all the usual suspects locally for parts store chains.

Rumor has it that you can shove a totally sealed group 34 battery into an NB. I'll leave it as a rumor until my craigslist battery dies and I test it out myself!
the Batterymart.com miata battery. Same as the Westco AGM but under $100 shipped. Also gettable on amazon for about the same price but minus the free shipping

Came in here to mention this one, too. Called a Marathon, I think. I don't have a Miata, but I use it in my racecar 'cause it is a small, inexpensive AGM.
Mine crapped out this morning, need a new one today, so I can't order one from batterymart. Any better options than $105 from O'riley?
Yes, the one that I ordered yesterday. Same as the Westco, but with a different label.

Yeah, about $30 cheaper from Advance using TRT30.
Ended up finding one for $98 locally. Installed it in the parking lot while some pencil dick with a lifted bright red pickup with a Cadillac front end on it revved his engine next to me.
I've used the Bosch AGM Miata battery for years. It was well under $100 when I bought it, but I think they are around that price now. But it's in my Galant VR4, not my Miata. My Miata has a crappy Duralast Gold battery that only seems to last two years.
My '97 is currently rocking a lawn tractor battery the PO installed. It works surprisingly well, and according to manufacture date on the battery, has been doing so for 3+ years.
The 10 year old battery in mine was probably a lawn tractor unit, too. It didn't have normal auto style terminals, just the flat ones like a tractor battery and bolt-on terminal extensions.

Thanks for the link! I ordered this and it arrived on Friday. Topped it with the trickle charger and installed it Saturday. So far so good.
Anybody got the size/thread specs for the battery hold down bolt on a NB? Mine was broken off when I purchased the car. Probably ought to get around to drilling it out and installing the hold down...
Just ordered a Battery Mart battery. It was only about $11 cheaper than the NAPA one that has served me well for the last 7.5 years. The factory battery only made it about 2.5 years. Hopefully the battery mart one will last closer to the NAPA one than the factory one.
I referenced this forum and this thread in the "Where did you hear about us?" section. Thanks GRM peeps!
I run a lawn mower batter in mine, 400 something cca and its fine. Hell it even sat 3 months and cranked up no problem..it was less than $50 at tractor supply
Mower battery is the poor mans lightweight battery, they work well on a small 4 cylinder, terminals aside. Get the highest CCA unit on the shelf.
For something that's getting used in the winter I'd just go stock size though, whatever's cheap and built by East Penn/Deka or Johnson Controls Inc.
