1991 Subaru Legacy - cheap, that's about it.

1987 Ford F250 - might be useful

You know what would make something a great beater? If you could slap some push bumpers onto it...
that foreste looked like it need them^
A Subaru. Everyone in Colorado drives a beater Subaru.
You don't want the four cam Subaru.
I'd do the 91 legacy then get a legacy gt engine. 2.2 turbo closed deck.. add boost.
Depends what you want to do.
Can't beat a beater pickup truck for usefulness and simplicity. However, I'd go with a smaller truck (and a 4x4 if the weather is a concern) not a F250.
Failing that Subaru sounds good...can't beat AWD or can you? I'm talking about the viscous diff, see the other post on here where someone noticed they were getting no torque transfer to the other wheel in the snow, it was a VLSD on a sentra I think.
P71, you know the gas prices will go back up in a year or so if we're lucky if not sooner.
Id pick the legacy out of those cars.
Any of these would be decent too:

+1
Beater?
Get the Subie. That Forester is priced twice as high as it should be.
What? Nobody suggested Miata?
Get whatever you're not gonna care about getting dinged in a parking lot.

Forester. Just not that one.
Find one with blown head gaskets. People are usually desperate to get rid of them. A weekend in the garage and some parts and you're good to go.

Now there is a true statement!
My Forester was $800 and my '00 Outback (really nice car) was $1,000. Both had bad or failing HG's but were still driveable. The repair isn't that bad either.
Scooby. HG's are easy and they are fun beaters.
...
OMG P71 picked NOT the P71 for a beater!

Up here in vancouver, car prices are ridiculous. Maybe I'll take that suggestion to look for a scooby with a blown HG....thanks for the suggestions!
