I was lucky enough to do about 10 years of road racing in a formula car with my father when he was racing. When he quit, so did I. Since then I have done about a decade of autocrossing and also quite a few track days and several years ago I joined NASA and did some TTs.
I am a pretty decent autocrosser locally, but don't really have a car good enough to compete with the big guns in STR. I enjoy it, but know that I am on slippery slope if I take it more seriously.
Road racing wise, I don't see ever being able to afford it again. Track days/TTs are fun for awhile, but I am always thinking about how wheel-to-wheel is so much better.
Any ideas on other motorsport related activities might scratch that itch?

Karting is appealing, but I have done enough of it to know I am not fast enough and the all over body pain the next day isn't fun.
Small bore bikes, see above:)

Mowing while racing would add another layer of difficulty!

Sooo, does that rule out Chumpcar or LeMons?
That's what I was going to suggest.
R/C cars? I had a lot of fun with those when I was heavy into racing them twenty years ago. I've been doing autocross and trying to work my way deeper into actual cars, but I occasionally think about the amount of time, money, and space I'd save if I could scratch the automotive itch at 1/10 scale...

E36M3, man, I dunno. Its a fine motivator for me to browse craigslist for a pocket bike though.

Growing up in Iowa in the early 90's we were able to get our learners/moped licenses at 14; so there was a squadron of us rolling around on YSR50s with the limiter removed. We actually looked about like that picture but without the helmets and not grown ass men.
To the OP; have you tried Forza lol?

I don't know about Forza but we have a hell of a lot of fun with the PS3 and GT5. Check out the top of the off-topic forum. Along those lines is iracing I've been doing it off and on for a couple years, I just don't have the time, or the computer for it much anymore. It is addicting though.
Circle track FWD 4 banger class? I think we just had a thread for the same question.
Lemons or 4Cyl class circle track seem like good answers.
Another answer that is more "out there" : Sailboat Racing.
Very do-able either on your own boat or the cheap way as crew on someone else's boat.
Your profile says Chicago. You are surrounded by some of the best sailboat racing in the world.

I am pretty sure nothing is cheaper then the circle track FWD 4 bangers. I see those things all the time for $500 ready to run.
