What's "The Answer" for sedans...?

Sorry if this has been answered before but I couldn't find a previous thread. 

e36/e46  m3/4/5  m3 4door 5speed.

Possibly Mazda3?  Used to be P71, maybe still is?

It's long been the P71. I don't recommend, however.

E39 sport can be added to the e36/e46 recommendation. Better cruiser not as high strung, still pretty good handler

My vote is G35/G37.  Similar performance as the Bimmers and a little less maintenance intensive.  But I may be biased...

Jaaaaag XJR makes a really nice Grand Touring sedan.  Of course I'm biased, but there are at least four active GRMers who own one.

Historically the E36M3 was the other answer. Harder to find now and I'm not sure the E46 ever really filled those shoes.

On paper, they tick the right boxes.  Adequate power, lots of room, good aftermarket, dime-a-dozen availability, good reliability.

If I were going for an "answer" sedan, I'd pick the P71 over the Bimmer if only because I can't afford $400 radiators and VANOS repairs.  Granted, I'd rather drive the E46, just not maintain it.  I think it's a little bit of a stretch to compare Miata to E46 if only for reliability.  The Bimmer definitely ticks all the boxes in factory form, I would just rather P71 and add some Bilsteins and sticky rubber.  Have 87.4% of the fun for half the cash.

-Fun 

-Easy to mod (lots of options)

-RWD and MT

what sedan does all that???

I think the Infiniti is probably closest but isn’t that cheap and the G35 has issues.

Change rwd to awd and you have an evo.

If you're not against FWD, how about an 8th or 9th gen Civic Si Sedan? 

FWIW, at the KOTH the first year a bunch of dudes brought P71s and they got beat badly by the civics, neons, and sentras.  This year there was just one.  And it SUCKED.   Even in junkyard form pretty much everything sportier than an Aztec is faster than a police interceptor around a track and autocross course.

Lincoln LS is surprisingly capable however and universally forgotten.
