I'm looking at buying a complete 1.8 donor car for my upcoming TVR project. I'll be robbing it of the drivetrain and electronics. Random things like the seatbelts too.
If the car has a hard top already, how much could I reasonably ask for it? What components should I be leaving in that an SM build would require?

Around here, that would mean the rolling shell is worth anywhere from free to $200.
Frankly, I think you'll do better selling them separately. Nobody would ever pay $1600 for a stripped roller with a hard top, but I bet people would pay $1000 for a good factory hardtop and $600 for a solid roller.
Really depends where you live. We almost can’t give away straight roller shells. I’m pretty sure the last one got sold for scrap by the guy who came to pick it up.
I see rollers come up in the SM Facebook group from time to time. Most of the time they are listed for a few hundred bucks w/o the hardtop. Caged ones usually have crash damage but seem to be listed for around the same...maybe a little more.
I can almost guarantee most responses if you list them together will be "Will you sell the hardtop separately?
We've got some transmissions, but I don't know if we have any NA/NB engines at the moment. Don't know of any coming up, either.
Ok, then I'll probably keep looking at donor cars.
What all do you recommend I grab from a donor car for a swap? It's going into a TVR 2500M. Ultimately my plan is to add in one of your FMII kits. I may pull the trigger on the Hydra for the initial swap, just to simplify the set-up and wiring.

Yeah but could make more just parting out the easy stuff like headlights, fenders, taillights, and rear panel. Then sell the shell for scrap.
Here is a thread for a Miata drivetrain going into a TR6. Should pretty much illustrate where you are going.
For sure you want the wiring harness and computer
You might want the seats
I have netted about $800 parting out body panels from the Miatas that died for my cause. I literally could not give away the 1.6 engine or gearbox. Selling the entire shell as an assembly would probably only get you a few hundred unless you have a very nice rust free shell and find someone like me who needs exactly that. I paid $900 for mine and then sold all the panels and assorted bits ooff for $500 or so

Can you repost the link? Didn't seem to work.
Thanks for the good info. Do windshields sell used or not really? Maybe hard to get out unbroken?

Figure if a Grandma can do it so can you. Tragic end to the whole story courtesy of a Hurricane going through Texas.
