I have a 89' civic wagon I bought with a B18A swap and I now want to go back to a D series. Whats a B18 motor, tanny, ecu worth these days? Motor and tranny have roughly 150K on both. Thanks Dan

IMO, about 600 to 700 dollars is a pretty fair asking price. Depends on your part of the country, up North our honda parts can be kind of scarce, so YMMV.

In reply to dinger:I'm in Ohio.Cincinnati to be exact. I suppose the axles and shifter cable would be included too. Won't be needing those with a D. Thanks Dan

I saw one local (can't remember if it was tranny and everything or not) on CL the other day for $500.

No guarantee of condition but you can get the whole set up at the pull-a-part for about $200. I don't know about your area but they have integras come through the pull-a-part regularly here. Just putting that out there as an absolute min price.

I was thinking $500 but didn't want to lowball myself. Thanks guys

Just out of curiousity why are you wanting to go back to the D-Series?

Better fuel mileage mostly. I'm looking into going turbo D if I can get the same HP and TQ but better fuel mileage.

What tranny is attached to the B18?

Have you tuned it at all? I see lots of people around here getting 30+mpg combined on their modified B18s, and they're just tuning with Crome.

I haven't done the research but........

It would seem to me that you should be able to get similar gas mileage out of an NA B18 as a turbo D-series. Seems like something to research before going through the trouble of swapping the motors.

Just your standard LS 5spd, nothing special. I've done no tuning to it and it's my guess the POs have left it alone. I'm getting around 24mpg right now.Thats a mix of city and highway.

I might stand corrected. I just looked up fuel miliage on a B18 integra and found 22/28. So it looks like your 24 combined is about right. That's a lot lower than I would expected.

Of course stock wagon is only 26/32. Looks like it would be about 4mpg difference if it were in stock form.

How much driving are you doing? Would the swap back to D-series be "free" after the sale of the B18?

The other thing too that bugs me about the swap is the PO made his own mounts. They don't look shady or anything I would just want hasport mounts if I kept the B and I don't feel like spending the extra cash right now.

Wow... that 24mpg sounds REALLY low to me, no offense meant. I see about that on the MX6, and that's with stock ECU attempting to control 440cc injectors, a 255lph pump, and an AFPR turned up a bit to cope with extra boost.

Do you have the LS tranny on there, too? That thing is super long geared as well.

Maybe that's normal for stock B18As... i'm used to seeing 30+ out of B18Bs and LS Vtecs, so i guess it could be a different world.

Wait... where did you buy this car from?

Has the standard LS tranny. Bought it in Michigan and drove it back home to Cincinnati. I thought the MPG was low too. I don't drive the car very often but still want decent GM when I do. I think I could break even or walk away with some cash from doing this swap. Atleast I think I could. Thats kinda why I'm asking it's worth.

I understand your desire to save money through fuel economy but would you really?

I just went over to www.fueleconomy.gov
Once there I pulled up the fuel economy of a '95 Integra (is that the right motor?)
I then compared that to a '89 Civic Wagon
I am not really up on Honda motor codes.

Comparing those two will give you annualized fuel costs. I then personalized the annual miles driven down to 5k miles per year since you claimed to drive the Honda less than 100 miles per week. At current gas prices, the savings came out to a whopping $147.00 per year.
For that kind of scratch, I would not forgo a good running motor and take the risk of a crappy motor. Sure, you might sell the bigger motor off at a little profit but after trouble and time there would be no real saving.
Heck, if making money through wrenching is your goal, you should be able to make more doing brake jobs in your driveway.

Of course, the real answer for your Civic Wagon may be to add some 4wd bits and tack on some skulls.

Thats a well put together video. The owner is on one of the forums I'm on. Mileage may not be that much better but there are other reason for me wanting to swap to a D..

Thought i might have... don't think the car made it's way up to Michigan, though.

I had a buddy that did a B18A swap into an 89 wagon, but he went to Atlanta with it.

His was maroon, though...

In reply to 93celicaGT2: Not mine. Mine is light blue. PO said the guy he bought it from was from Jersey. My cars seen a few different states and owners but you kinda have to drive far to to find these wagons. Not many out there.

How much does the wagon weigh? I did a quick google search and didn't come up with much.

Are you looking to go to a stock D series or just any D series?

I used to drive a stock 94 DX HB with the D15 and got 38mpg if I was ragging on it and 43mpg if I took it easy. Don't know the weight difference between the two cars. But, if your goal is mileage over power in the short run it might be worth looking into.

I was thinking D15 w/ an A6 head or just a D16a6. I'd like a little power, thats why I was considering a turbo w/ low boost.

Related(?) I'm getting between 30 and 33 hypermiling with my 91 teg. Record of 35, but that's shutting the engine down while coasting. Don't drive in anger and 30 is easily obtainable.

Driving in anger is so much more fun though.

Thats crazy stuff! I don't think I'd ever consider shutting the engine off and coasting. Cheers to you sir
