Where are these rally type shifters sold?

Hi everyone, 

Anyone knows which company makes these type of colum mounted shifters used in rally?

I need one for my project car because Paddle shifters carry a weight penalty so im trying to see if there are any  sequential shifter kits available that can be mounted to the steering colum support.

Those aren't legal in rally anymore, shifter must be mechanically connected to the transmission.  The column mounted shifters were electronic or air control.

It's for my own project car. I have watched a couple rally videos to see how the mechanism works, i might go with a mechanical direct attachment. 

I would've rather to buy a complete kit  but it seems i'll have to fab up something myself which adds  to the 3 page long things I have to  finish on the car .... 

Btw why were they banned

Shifter karts use a relatively simple mechanical setup that sits behind the wheel like that, might be worth looking at parts for those.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't this type of shifter just a really long and funny shaped paddle on only one side of the column?

ie, isn't the actual mechanism basically the same as the paddle shifter, just maybe with different pivot points because of the distances and leverages?

Yup arrived at the same conclusion. one option is,  I could take a WRC style push pull paddle shifter and replace  the paddle shaped part with a lever of some sort but that's still against the rules. 

Sooo, Im thinking of bending a slight angle in some  4130 tubing then have it thrust the gearbox linkage back and forth via a bushing mounted on the steering colum support.

The shifter kart  kit looks fragile.

Wouldn't this carry more of a weight penalty than simply using a shifter in the stock position (which is what most rally cars do)?

Just one question. Do you have a sequential transmission? If not then you are stuck with paddle shifters if it's automatic transmission. Not even sure you could do it on the new dual clutch transmissions. If you do have a sequential box then just put the shifter straight up from the floor. You can have it a couple inches away from the wheel. Just push and pull and easy peasy you are shifting.
