I've got a whole bunch of old air cooled VW Beetles. Most are parts cars, but some are salvagable. I've always wanted to go racing, so...

Is there any SCCA/NASA/etc. class that modified air cooled VWs could be competitive in?

Formula Vee - not really modified ACVWs, but does use some parts.

Herbie used to race against all sorts of interesting hardware and won. Are you asking about wheel to wheel racing or autocross? If you are talking autocross build your car and go have fun - don't worry about being competitive.

yes, I would think AutoX could be good.. lightweight, easy HP.. all that weight in the rear for traction.

I wonder how competitive a bug could be?

This guy was at Road America/SVRA this past May and he told me he had been racing this beetle for over 25 years at RA. He might have said he was from the Elkhart Lake general area.....

I'm thinking wheel to wheel racing.

Herbie doesn't race much anymore:
