With apologies to Regular Car Reviews.
Internet lore states that the FR-S/BRZs cook the crap out of their oil at track days. I'm not doing anything yet, but a forum member ( can't remember who, but thank you ) clued us in to Holley's clearance page. I stumbled upon Earl's coolers at insane prices.
What size do I pick? The engine bay is tight. How big can I get away with? I don't want to run a fan if I don't have to, so we are looking at somewhere in the nose of the car.
Earl's Coolers easiest to filter it from -cooling- to -EARL'S
You have to click specs for exact sizes. But the specs are from 4x9 to 15x15, all with a 2" thickness.
What say?
I always like the B&M Stacked coolers. Put the smallest one on my mom's sunbird in the Late 90s and it drop the Coolant Temps by 30 degrees.

Earls are stupid money.
B&M coolers are made by Long. I've never had a problem with any of the ones I've put in.
It really depends on which type of cooling transmission you need since there are three variations to choose from.
Top three on my list are:
B&M
Hayden Automotive
Mishimoto
don;t you still need to put a pump in to get the fluid in and out? Or are we just talking about automatics here?
I meant engine oil. As far as stupid money, the 4"x13" Earl's lists for $179.00. the Clearance page has it for $34.00. The most expensive one is 13" x 18" and its $74.00 originally $496.00!
Engine oil is an entirely different animal. The cooler is under pressure unlike a trans cooler. For the money, I would go as large as possible and use the savings to get a nice thermostat bypass for it. That will let it get up to temp and avoid over cooling daily and give you the greatest margin for the track.

I remember my friend used these coolers and they were good.
A thermostatic bypass will be employed. Looks like most kits put it in the passenger corner of the bumper, so I will replicate that.
How is your setup in terms of coolant cooling capacity? If you've got plenty, look at an oil / water heat exchanger. That might help with mounting concerns and it also gets rid of the need for a thermostat, as engine coolant temp is pretty close to desired oil temp.
Setrab and Mocal are probably the best coolers (though I've heard some stories of Mocals leaking). I have a Mocal core going on my Evo transmission with a Tilton pump and -8AN lines.
I've used hayden coolers in the past. Dad's truck, our truck borth got external hayden coolers for the trans, ours also for the P/S. I installed one for the C10 P/S since I tend to make it work a little harder than most. I can come off a 60+ second auto-x course and the Saginaw pump is quiet.... so it works!
Novak have been my go to for years and never had an issue with one.
