On any sedan or wagon with a high aspect ratio tire? Hell yes!

What ab0ut an XJ? It's kind of a wagon and rides on high profile tires.

Nah, the XJ is a SUV and needs white letter tires.

Im a big raised white letter guy, but only with BFGs.  Nothing else has aged very well.  I rock my KO2s laces out on my Land Cruiser.

I should really get the tires flipped on my truck. I was a coward and went black letters out when I put the KO2s on.

I figure if the manufacturer makes RWLs, its a shame to not rock them.

I do know that my Ghia came with two options from the factory: a driver side mirror (they were optional apparently!?) and white walls.  I do want to get some, but they are rather pricey and I am a bit concerned about discoloration, which I hear is an issue with some of the modern ones.

Not my cars, but what it looked like new::

I wonder of the original spec tires for TR-6 are still available. Not white walls, but thin red line on the sidewalls - looked pretty good.  Otherwise no wite walls after 1962   (watershed year for British sports cars when they went 'modern' - MGB, TR-4 etc)

Red lines /gold lines on a correct reato are nice, wide whites on an old luxury car are ok too. The thin whites are terrible on everything.

RWL are great and need a come back. I've got RWL Generals proudly on my truck.

As a GenXer my first few cheap cars were often defined by "some" whitewalls and "some" blackwalls in a mix and match melange.  Having a limited budget meant you just had to live with it.

Imagine a 1979 Civic, with 12 inch tires.  Two of which are whitewalls.  Humiliating times for an enthusiast like myself.

My girlfriend's car, the most unloved Beetle ever made:

1971 Super Beetle. It is technincally too new for whitewalls, but the look has grown on me a ton. They were god awful expensive though, something like $800 from Coker for the set.

I thought Super Beetles had curved windshields . . .

Not in 1971! VW? Horribly inconsistent?

Things I only learned after having to go through this head to tail:

  • 1971 Was the only year for the flat windshield and old fashioned flattish bumper.
  • A Super Beetle is 3 inches longer than a standard. But only from the bottom of the windshield forward. They are identical behind the A pillar.
  • Removing an old lower ball joint on this was worse than any other car I have ever worked on.
  • VWs are in fact easy to work on. But coming from older American crap boxes, everything is just sorta....weird.
