In reply to freetors :

The only thing about auto climate I mind is the default behavior most have where heat means put all air through the floor vents and melt your feet off.  The Jeep does this, the BMW only does for the first few minutes and then starts turning on other vents.  But both allow auto temp and fan speed with manual vent selection, so that solves the problem.

At this point, manual temp control is distracting to me.  I don't mind having to change fan speeds, but fiddling with the temp adjust all the time to stay comfortable is irritating and I've become quite happy to let the car do it for me.

reading this thread makes me appreciate my GTI. It has the center screen, which has all of the useful things you want there (avg. MPG, miles to empty, current speed, etc), and you can use two buttons on the steering wheel to flip between them. There are two other buttons to flip sideways to different functions there so you don't have to look down at the infotainment screen (like phone bluetooth, other stuff).

In any case, I find that the things it has are actually useful, and I haven't really found anything that's "dumb" yet - other than the one thing on the info screen where you can get "performance" measurements like cornering G's and boost (neither of which seem very accurate to me).

It would seem simple for a manufacturer to put "typical" things there though. I can't say I've ever wondered what my "average speed" is. But Nissan is Nissan - they always seem to do strange, pointless things just to make their cars a bit annoying.
