The Ram chargers The High & The Mighty. I know everything done had a purpose to maximize performance of the primitive drag racing parts of the day, but damn is that a goofy looking car.
This car immediately sprang to mind:
This car gets a lot of heat, and it is goofy looking, but I appreciate the extremely functional design of it. They made the best nose aero design they could with F1's rules at the time and they didn't care how it looked, as if to make a statement:
The Mosler Raptor was clearly meant to be enjoyed from the driver's seat, so approach it backwards:
The proportions are way off, the windshield is too upright, the wheels are mis-matched, the flares are chunky, the tail is ridiculous...it SHOULD be ugly right?
F1 has had some howlers inthe form over function, although in most of these cases function was for doodoo as well.
Oh man, I need to find a pic of Version 1.0 of our team's Formula Hybrid car from college. That POS would end this thread immediately . I'll see if I can dig one up tonight.

I'm gonna have to disagree with that one. It's beautiful in form and function. And you have to respect an engineer that's willing to throw out the rulebook and design from first principles.
I disagree on the deltawing too. There is not an extraneous line on the car. Everything is there for a reason and done in a relatively pretty fashion.
Presenting "The Bug," widely credited for being the first dragster. An old Ford with pretty much everything not needed to get it across the finish line removed.

Only if you mean AWESOMEST. C'mon. That thing is super rad. The history of it makes it just incredible.

I mean awesome for just about everything in this thread- they don't have to be concours winners to be cool as hell!
Delta wing is ugly, doesn't mean it isn't functional, well engineered, ground breaking or cool. Still ugly.
But beauty is in the eye of the beholder
