I am sad that the Tirerack no longer sells Kosei K1 racing wheels. Those were closer to 13 lbs a piece in the 15" size. I guess should have kept the ones that I sold... oh, about five years ago.

RoosterSauce, I have a set of white Koseis that I might part with for the right trade. Just sayin'

I wonder how a set of 16" Rota RBs would look on an Accent, c/w Rally Armor flaps, four big Hellas and the pair of VW Recaros I've got in the attic. Hmmmmm.

To the point about passenger airbag sensors, there are two types I'm aware of and they're both located on the seat cushion, between the upholstery and the foam. They are factory calibrated devices,so I don't know how well they would work if they were transferred into a diffent style of seat. You might be creating a lawyers' field day.

Let's see what I have here... a box of white tic-tacs, three different cable splitters, a chap stick, an iphone, a bic lighter, a bottle of rooster sauce, a pile of junk mail, and a slightly used Holley 4bbl carb. Deal?

I have driven a bunch of late model stuff, and I do like these cars, but I still wouldn't call them light, or revvers. Apparently neither would the people who own them

Jeeeeze, the Accent only weighs 500 lbs more and has a power peak 1800 rpm less than a Lotus Elise. They're pretty much the same thing, except the Accent's engine is in the front and it costs $35k less.

You got a pretty darn good deal! I stopped at a dealer on the way home last night and they had an 08 Accent SE on the lot with 31k on it for $10.5k..

Yeah the Accent was on my short-list so I've been watching them, and it seemed like $7-$10k was the usually range. Although I didn't see any totally comparable to this one.

In my experience Edmunds is more accurate on values than KBB.

As I recall, it uses the early Mazda BP motor so all the miata tricks should work. Way overbuilt for an economy car motor.

What are the aftermarket suspension options for the current model Accent? can you gut the struts / shocks and put in a Koni insert?

I like the look of these cars and on paper they follow the "hot hatch" formula of the old VW Rabbits, Sentras and Civics, just curious about what it takes to make then handle.

Well, I stumbled across these on eBay. I've never heard of them, but they seem pretty serious.

I'd imagine with a little fab work, there ought to be a way to make VW stuff fit though.

Those coilovers look pretty nice, but I'd get something like that for a track car. The OE suspension handles the crap roads around here pretty well. I wouldn't want to go too stiff and end up bouncing straight off the road whenever I hit a pothole/frost heave/washboard/possum.

A look on tire rack shows 15" enkei at 9.5 lb and $199 each, also TR 15" at 12.8lb and $89 a peice.

The TR's are more in my ideal price range, but of course that is a compromise. Gravity casting + lightweight suggests to me that strength is relatively poor, and perhaps not the best choice for regular road use where potholes, frost heaves, and curbs will often jump right out into the middle of the road. At least the Koseis were shot peened. Still, they are tempting, and I will consider them in the future.

There's a brand new set of lowering springs for my son's Kia Rio in my garage, and the Rio is basically the same car as the Accent. They'll be put on (by me, no doubt !) come spring. He watches some Kia/Hyundai sites where they do modify the cars,so there's some stuff out there.

I rather think 195/55/15 would be the optimal tire size. The 175/70/14's on the GS are a bit flimsy for my taste. On the other hand, the rubber band 16" tires on the SE are a bit too.... rubber bandy... Firstly, because I am cheap, I am considering sticking 195/60/14's on the OE wheels, perhaps in the RE960 or Altimax HP flavor.

That's exactly what I would do. The width, and profile are fine for a car like that, and that size will buy you a bit of gear at the same time.
