I'd replace that slotted clamp with a good quality fuel injection type clamp (or at least a higher quality non-slotted clamp with rolled edges to avoid cutting into the hose). They give more even clamping pressure and will hold better. If the barb is long enough (doesn't look like it is unfortunately) I'd double clamp.

Yeah not a bad thought, I've got a set of the oetiker clamps (the ones that crush on with pliers, similar to cv boot clamps) but I was worried about their clamping range since the barb is a little too small and the screw clamp can go further.
