Love Scandinavian design and want a track car to match? How about this 1979 Volvo 242?
Upgrades fitted to the 242 include a dry sump, MicroSquirt EMS, T5 transmission, brakes from an S60R, SCCA-legal roll cage, a Kirkey aluminum seat and much more.

That engine bay is pretty.
I like a good LS swap but this is way more cool.
That is as cool as a Swedish winter!

HA! I did own one: a 1983 Volvo 242 with monkey sh!t brown interior. IPD sway bars, Bilstein shocks, everything waiting for a V8 swap. This turbo is awesome on its own--I like it as is--in fact it makes my heart ache for my old 242. Word to the wise: If you buy the car, buy it WITH the wheels because finding wheels you actually like that fit volvos isn't the easiest thing to do.
Funny, but there is a 544(?) next to this one--my father owned two of those creatures. He had fun in the 1960's racing in canyon roads against American muscle cars. They never stood a chance against the smaller, dated-looking Volvo.
Wants become needs. I really like that car, and want it badly, but need it? Not yet.
If I ever get my silver 242GT, it's keeping its red block. It's also keeping an air filter and a timing cover, because I'm not a moron.
Don't know if y'all have seen what Hot Wheels has been up to lately...

When I first started trackday events in the mid-1980s, there was a primer-gray one that used to show up at Riverside Raceway in SoCal. It was way faster than expected.
Need to add a couple of inches of rear rake to it.
