What’s more rad than an E36 BMW or a wagon? How about an E36 BMW wagon?
This Euro-spec, 5-speed BMW 328i Touring has already gone through the trouble of being imported into the United States and now comes with a clean Georgia title.
Fitted from the factory with the M Sport Package and the M Sport suspension, the BMW also features …

Do I still need it if I already have one?
BTW, that seller has an excellent rep on C&B for BMW Tourings...

I think that'd meet the definition of unicorn.
In reply to Colin Wood :
There was one for sale up in Jax at a fair price. It was tempting.

That’s good to hear as I have been checking them out. The big question: Would I be happy with an E36 Touring instead of the E46 M3?

You would once you swap an s54 in! A BMW Touring with an s54 is a dream car for me. :)

I dreampt of and ended up with a Mcompact because the US didn't get E36 wagons. If we did I would have been searching for an M3Wagon. I guess a 328 with M3 cams could suffice!

Hard to say... depends on what you want it to be. The Touring will not be as sharp as the M, and be down on power, but it's a really nice real world car. The M Sport suspension is pretty much 'just right' for a street car if a bit on the soft side for canyon runs. Mine is the 2.0l (148hp), so power to weight about like an NA8 Miata, but the torque lets it run pretty effortlessly with modern traffic. The 2.8L has about 40hp on mine, which would honestly be pretty nice.
I have a couple other projects on the front burner, but an E46 330 donor car is something I'm keeping an eye out for... I don't think the ROI on an E46 M engine swap is worth the extra expense for the street. S52 would be nice, but are iron blocks, unlike my current Euro engine, and the 330 is close to the same power level.
Be aware that OEM replacements for Touring M Sport suspension appear to be NLA. Sedan parts will bolt on, but the spring/damping rates are different. If you want to lower it, or put on coilovers, there's lots of options, but not if you want stock replacement.
More motivation...
Wow. I used to have an E39 528iT and I LOVED that car. One of the few that I regret selling. This one is only a few miles from my house too...

I checked his previous auctions, he's brought in quite a few of them. It seems like the market for e36 tourings in the US hasn't really taken off yet so it may be a good time to get one. I'm still lusting over the idea of an e30 325iX touring, but I think the time has passed to be able to find a good one for a price I'm willing to pay.
In reply to Rodan :
I agree, not sure I’m up for an S54-swapped E36 Touring. I know it’s the dream, but what’s the reality?
I lived with our 318ti and know it’s not a fast combo. I figure a 320i Touring would be about as slow. I’ve probably driven every possible E36 sold stateside, too, so I know the drill.
But this isn’t about speed. More for the ownership enjoyment as I kinda feel like I’m between wagons at the moment. But the M3 is pretty darn cool....

There's an E30 325ix touring for sale locally to me. This e36 touring is definitely right in my wheel house. I'd love to own one but logic tells me I don't have space for it in my garage or a real use for it. But I want it....

The white one? My wife and I both like E30s, and that one looks nice. But we are also kicking around the idea of a house upgrade and may need money for that (and then some).
Something that might sound trivial about the E36 Touring but catches my eye–and in a good way.
Some/a lot of wagons just use the sedan’s rear doors/rear windows. I get it, it’s easier.
But the E36 Touring doesn’t do that.

Yep. It looks nice and would be a great awd DD. Couldn't justify it unless I sell the Land Cruiser tho. That wouldn't make a ton of sense given the Land Cruiser does far more, is much newer and far more reliable

I actually bid on one of his, but I was factoring transportation across the country into my costs and stopped short. Mine also came from C&B, but a west coast seller (who has also brought in a few Tourings) so it was cheaper in the long run.
Auction pricing on Tourings seems to have softened through the year (23), but there's a wide variety of content and quality that affects price. Nicely sorted, well optioned, factory M Sport cars with the 6cyl bring the best money. I expect this car should bring $14-17k. I've seen 4cyl Tourings sell for under 10k. It's super common for Tourings to have the M Sport body kit added when being imported/flipped into the US market.
I shopped E30 Tourings pretty hard before buying my E36, but came to the conclusion that the E36 gave far more value for the prices, especially if you want to use it as a driver. I do still love them though!
Yeah, I’d want the M Touring package and inline-six.
Maybe.
Something about the tailgate looks off on the e36 tourings. That looks really sharp in red though.
I bought my e30 touring initially to make sure I wanted the chassis and it was cheap(comparatively). I figured I could resell it and find the version I really wanted. Well the white has grown on me and now I'm just looking for a second in Malachite(green).
This E36 is going to haunt me, huh?

I really do not like the fact that this seller is only one state away. Why couldn’t they be importing cars into Seattle?

That's a good thing, if you want the car... if you're bidding competition has to ship it, they have to account for a lot more cost!
