That is Jim Fueling's handiwork right there. He decided that his Harley didn't have enough power so..he added a third cylinder. The design is interesting in that it borrows some basic ideas from radial engines used in aircraft. How well did it work? 150 hp and 195 ft lbs of torque. This engine would've required HD to add only six new parts to it's parts inventory to make this happen.
Link with more details.
It also adds three inches to your hootus size.
Really cool, though.

Great. 50% louder too. Just what the world needs.
Ok. It's pretty cool, actually.
I could only find one video of one running. Sounds pretty cool though. I generally dislike the sound of big v-twins. The triple sounds pretty cool.

Wonder if it's smoother running than the stock motor.
Seeing a big-twin HD with all their rubber mounts at idle, these things remind me of paint shakers.

My first thought was a Morgan 3-wheeler... with a 3 cylinder engine.
Wow... that article is 14 years old.
Sadly, looking at the curring Feulingparts.com website, it looks like they aren't making the kit anymore. There is a page about a bike they had/sold buried in their site: http://www.feulingparts.com/w3motorcycle.php
Well, it eliminates the reason a large percentage of people buy Harleys, the wildly uneven idle. It also looks like it would cause huge cooling issues for the front cylinder.
So... eliminating a prime selling point and exacerbating one of it's weaknesses, probably not going to fly.
I am guessing the cylinders will fire on the same rotation like the standard engine. So pop, pop....pop, pop... pop, pop becomes pop, pop, pop... pop, pop, pop... pop, pop, pop...
Cool engineering exercise though.

Yeah, I thought people bought those things because of the stupid sounding "potato-potato-potato" idle which they actually tried to trademark and the fact that they don't have enough power to achieve speeds which may injure you.
Kinda kills the "appeal", doesn't it?

I've seen several 3 and 4 cyl HD's over the years up in Laconia Bike week.
Neat but not my cup of tea.

I seem to recall Cycle World or Motorcyclist ran an article on it back then, and then the whole thing died away.

wait a minute.. people -like- all that vibration?

Actually, yes. At least, I do. While they shake at idle, they smooth out at speed, to a gentle, soothing vibration.
I prefer that, to the buzz of the Yamaha Bolt, that I test rode last summer. The Yamahammer made my hands numb after five minutes, from the buzziness. No thanks.
I would rather no vibration at all. Something like a Beemer

Fail for not linking the video.
Found one!

that actually sounds better than most V-twins.
