The 200cc bike I ride daily requires me to have it pinned, constantly. I know the Speed triple will kill me when I get it.

Get a Street Triple. Better handling. More than enough power for public roads. Enough to get into trouble if you want, but not so much that you need to work hard to stay out of it.
Except they cost the same, used, around here. And...single sided swingarm.
I will die with a smile on my face.

I'm probably capable of beating you to that point.....
Speed triple, street triple, the Duc monsters, MV brutales, etc.....all amusing hooligan bikes.
Well, I was hoping the fork seals would make it until winter, but they started leaking.....I started trying to tear it down tonight after hanging my electric hoist, and everything came apart easy....except for the front axle nut/bolt. I cannot get that SOB off. I am about to button it all back up and ride the 30mi to the nearest dealer and let them berkeley with it. FML, I didn't want to have to pay the additional labor.

I rode both and preferred the Speed, so he should ride them both and see for himself. They a both great bikes, so you can't go wrong with either really.

I'm following your thread with interest. I've always been a fan of the zx-10s and wonder what they're like to live with as a commuter for instance.
Appleseed wrote: I firmly believe that you can ride any bike daily...if you want it bad enough.
I don't disagree, but wanting it bad enough is the issue there. Some bikes just aren't inspiring enough to deal with the downsides. Surprisingly my worst bike DD was my Honda 450. The main issues were the handling, which better tires could have helped some, and the fuel range, which was pretty miserable at a little over 100 miles. With a 72 mile round trip commute I had to stop for gas way too much, so probably only commuted on that bike a week before moving on to something else.

Well, I think I figured out why the nut/bolt wouldn't come loose.....so attempt #2 tonight.
As far as commuting on one, its not bad to be honest. It has enough torque to putter around. Its pretty quiet, UNLIMITED POWAR!!!!, and this bike is built for someone 5'10" or smaller. Oddly enough, the faster you ride the better milage you get, so ride fast My only complaints thus far are the seat(a gel seat would fix that), and I need a steering damper in a big way. Wheelie happy bike = barshake....
Oh, and it handles amazingly well(I guess like you'd expect a short wheelbase to)......I'm lucky there are a few smooth twisty roads around me to play on.
Victory is mine, I have now created a 170hp unicycle!!!!!
Off to get resealed tomorrow And as I don't have stands yet(did this with my overhead cable hoist) I needed an impromptu stand to help take some weight off the hoist......behold, a Tokico Blue bike stand!!!! Which is fitting considering the bike has Tokico brake calipers.
Well, she's back together, and a lot nicer to ride. Put 300mi on it just tonight.....oddly enough, nothing I did came loose, but the bolts holding the ignition cylinder/steering lock must have rattled loose and fell out.......wtf, I didn't even touch those.
I still need to buy a set of stands, I already picked up a set of vortex swingarm spools for the back.
Further revelation today, it appears the lock cylinder wasn't bolted before, it appears to have just been epoxied.
I love finding bits of "shade tree mechanicing" like that when you get a second hand bike, my rc51 was chock full of stuff like that

My friend owned this one for nearly 2 years before and never had anything on the front end apart......he was baffled. I found some M6x1.00 metric cap screws at the local farm supply store and bolted them in......no issues thus far.
First time to the drag strip and ran a best of 11.63.......no quick shifting and my launches were all either bog or BIG wheelie......FML
Consolation prize, I was runner up in the bracket racing. So its just like every other Motorsport I do......show up, get trophy.....no if only I can add berkeley bitches get money, I'll be in good shape.
I can't believe hooligan bike was brought up and no one mention the Z1000<I'm biased just a touch, Suzuki SV. And the older Vtwin Aprilia millie can be picked up cheap.

I hate the sv650.......I'd rather ride on the back of a moped with a mean trick named jim than ride an sv again.
This was mine. I quit riding on pavement because all of the mouth breathers and sold it shortly after my daughter was born.
These bikes are great and I will own another one some day. If you end up buying it you REALLY need to get a steering damper and a manual cam chain tensioner on it. The stock calipers and master cylinder on the front are junk as well, CBR units work nice with a spacer, you can read about this on the 10r forums.
I bought the lime green '04. It had 24,600mi on it when I got it, and I just crossed 27k(a month and a half later)
I love the titanium color on these too.....If I don't go to an MV Agusta after this, I'll buy a first gen in that color. I just joined up on 10r.net Wednesday, same username as here. I'm looking at the zx14 nissin brake calipers and master since its just bolt on.
That looks good. I like the lime green bikes.
Have you had any problems with the plastic tail cowl breaking? I ask because in the pics yours looks nice and tight. Mine had rattled apart at around 12k miles.
